ship him enough to lay 13 miles of

line toward Shreveport. We be-
lieve this road will ultimately be
built to Natchez. on the Mississippi
river. This road will give us the
fourth road to Shreveport and with
a brisk competition on the part of
these roads Texarkana can snap

being favored with cheap freight
rates. We say let the rails be laid

1 A Woman's Cleverness.
A good story is told of the clever-
ness of a woman in a transaction
with an insurance adjuster. The
parlor curtains took tire and before
the blaze was extinguished the car-
I pct was badly scorched. After
. looking over the damage the repre-
sentative of the company said she
was entitled to the value of a new
carpel SIOO. “We will allow you
I that sum" continued the man
"ami we will take your old carpet."
' “Why what can you do with it?"
“Oh we'll'sell it second-hand and
■ get back $lO or sl2 at least" was
the careless reply Intended to make
M the company's attitude as generous
as possible. “In that case" prompt-
ly put in the owner of the carpet.
1 “sell it to me I'll give you sl2 for
8 it." The adjuster could only com-
" ply with the result that this quick-
-1 wilted chatelaine got a new parlor
H carpet with a handsome moquette
floor covering as well tor an upper
room that needed it for sl2.

A FAIRY TALE
Mr. Allison a thorough newspa- !
per man from Missouri paid our <
office a visit this week and we en- 1
joyed very much his genial com- i
pany. It is currently reported that
he will soon start a daily paper at
White Cliffs and will with all prob-
ability an engraving and electro- '
typing department. The paper j
taking the dispatches will come di- <
rectly in competition with Little '
Rock and Kansas City publications.
We wish him much success in bis
undertaking.—Ashdown Herald.
Mr. Allison may be a good news-
paper man but he shows poor
judgement in starting out with a
daily paper in an undeveloped coun-
try. A weekly paper would per-
haps answer the purpose of boom-
ing White Cliffs and could be sus-
tained but a daily will never be a
success at the Cliffs just at the
present time. 1
