Owen of Sabinal spent the holidays
with their sister Mrs. W. S. Bales

Mra. Garnett Juvenal and little
son Preston of Rockdale who was
visiting her parents, H. C. and Mrs.
Dollohite returned home to spend

Miss Mabel Briggs of Del Rio and
John Tate of Lockhart were guests
of their cousins, Misses Zoe and Ruth
Tate a part of last week.
The Masons and Eastern Star
lodges enjoyed a swell supper and
Christmas tree New Years eve every
one report a pleasant evening.
Mr. and Mrs. S. T. Hawes enter-
tained the young people Tuesday
night withe social gathering, games
music and delicious refreshments
were served to the many guests,
very one report such a nice time
and hope Mr. and Hawes will enter-
tain soon with just such another
evening
Miss Mamye Collins of San Anto-
nio was the guest of her aunt Mrs
L. G. Collins a part of the holidays
Miss Nellie Rumsey of San Antonio
spent New Years with Vesta Riley.
E. A. Mathews aged 73 years died
at the home of his son Prof. J. G.
Matthews Christmas morning of
alight illness and old age. Mr. Matth
ews is well known to meny of our
settlers, was a member of the Baptist
church and the Masonic order, his
remains were interred in the Lytle
cemetery Monday evening by the
Masonic Order.
Mrs. Doc Nixon and little son

Benton people had an enjoyable
time during Christmas. Had a fine
Christmas tree which was well loaded
with good things.
Mr. T. A. Jones was at Benton and
attended the W. 0. W. Saturday

Mr. and Mrs. Sam Jordan are visit
ing Pearsall this week
The Eastern Star people attended
their Christmas tree, or New Year's
tree Saturday night at Lytle.
There were a few nice turkey din
ners Xmas day at and around Benton.
Mr. and Mrs. Welch have visitors
this week from San Antonia
Mr. and Mrs. Tim Burgess are visit
ing home folks at Benton, from Miguel.
Grandpa Pilgrim is very illl at
this writing.
Mra. Maggie Dillard is visiting her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Chapman.
The W. 0. W. is going to give a
public installation Saturday evening
January, 28th, at Benton school
house, at 2 o'clock Every body is
invited to attend.
Charley Chapman is at home visit
ing his mother this week
Earl Miller from San Antonio is
visiting his sister, Mrs. Jessie Kay.
Lewis Webb has moved to Benton
on his newly purchased farm.
Howard Thompson is very sick at
this writing. I
Mra. Neeley Wells has moved to
Eddie Wells farm east of Benton.
Elgin Kilborn has moved to New
Summerset.
Richard McLaughlin of San Antonio
visited relatives and friends here last
week
Miss Zoe Tate happened to a very
painful and serious accident Thurs-
bay night while going to-a social the
duggy ran over a rock turning it
over throwing the occupants out and
striking her right leg breaking the
ankle also breaking both bones above
the ankle, besides other bruises on
her body.___

The holidays have panned over as
leaving many pleasant memories
and we stand fronting another atep,
a New Year, in life's amphitheatre
to mount
Every night at Black Hill was
marked by a sociable, the most
noted being the marriage of Miss
Nora Edwards and Mr. Winfred Bush
Wednesday night
Miss Lillie Brown who has been
spending the holidays with her
parents returned to her home at
Crystal City.
Messrs. Jim Nelson, Frank Meyers
and J. F. W. Meyers were out on a
hunting expedition.
Judge A.N. Coward of Ditto attend
ed the wedding here Wednesday
night.
The Misses Francis Dubose, Chloe
Halliburton of Devine and Lorna Me
Millan of San Antonio who have
been spending the holidays with the
Misses Brown returned to their
homes Friday.
Mr. Otis Brown of Crystal City
spent New Years with his parents
Misses Helen and Alice Nelson
and Mr. Dave Nelson entertained a
concourse of the young people of
Black Hill and Lytle Thursday night
in grand style. %
Bro. Dubose filled his regular ap-
pointmeat here Saturday night and
Sunday, preaching a very effective
New Year’s sermon.
Mr. Ernest Richter, the mud dober
at the pottery has returned from
home at Elmendorf where he has
been spending the holidays.
Mr. Green made a business trip
to San Antonio Friday returning

J. W. Roberson butchered a 19
months old hog one day laat week
that tiped the beam at 490 pounds
