A fine rain has visited our neigh-
bor hood, Saturday night after 2
days high South wind with showers,
a soaking rain fell, filling tanks. All
are jubilant over the rain.
A cool norther came Saturday
— evening with ice-last night. Still
cool to day. Some have killed hogs.
Some farmers have corn up if
Jack Frost skips will, have early

J Earl Dubose and Carl King went
to San Antonio with cattle Saturday.
Mr. Tobe King and family visited
Dr. Pettis Sunday. Monday he suf-
fered with another one of his bad
•spells.
Elias King and family came in
this morning to take cantrol of Black
smith shop here.
Sam McMillan, the strong man,
showed at Duncan school house Fri-
day night had a very good attend-
ance for such unpleasant weather.
There will be lotscorn planted in
two more weeks fine season in land
- Our schools are still getting along
fine. Some of older scholars are at
home at farm work.
Henry Barron and Henry Dubose
assisted Mr. A. H. Avery in killing a
big 300 lb hog Monday the hog be-
longed to Sam Avery.
Mr. Lonnie Wigington of Devine
visited at J. R. Dubose Sunday.
Travis Dubose and wife visited at
J. B. Duboses Sunday.
Mr. King that lives on W. B. Lit-
tieton place, has relatives visiting
them from Arkansas.
J. B. Dubose carried out a new
I riding planter to his farm this week
k W. H. Dubose has 5 or 6 acres of
F corn up, through planting corn.

Farmers are all rejoicing over the
good rain that fell Saturday.
Farmers have about finished plant

Mr. McWhorter is very sick at this

Little George Brittain visited at
Miguel Sunday.

the John Deere Plow Co., was here
this week. ,
Mrs. Laura Brittain is very sick at
this writing.
E.T. Pruitt went to Miguel to
look after his ranch this week
Allen Dillard of Anchorage was
here Sunday and reports a good rain.
Mrs. John Chapman is visiting at
Senior this week.
Author Sharber gave the young
folks an entertainment which was
very much enjoyed.
The prayer meeting at this place
is a success. The subject next Sun-
day night to Hope., John Wells leader.
Mr. John Coffee is here this week
with the Watkins remedies.
Alvin Dillard was out from San
Antonio this week looking for a place.
, Fine Rains *
After drizzling and showering for
several days, the clouds culminated
the North Saturday evening, were
driven back by a brisk North wind
and the rain Saturday night seemed
to be general over thia auction, rang-
ing from one half to two inches.
The rain guage in town registered*
.63, which added to the showers
made over an inch and put lands in
fine shape.
The rain was heavier at Miguel
and over the central part of Atascosa
county and west from Devine, the
creeks ran baiskly. The temperature
fell to near the freezing point and
hog killing wss in order Monday.

Quite a croud from here attended
a concert at Rossville Saturday night,
and report a fine time.
We hada good rain at last and
farmers are wearing a 2 by 4 smile.
Grandma Harris is spending a
week with her grand daughter, Mrs.
Newcomb of Devine.
Mr. Ballsey of San Antonio visited
his daughter Monday.
Chester Whittet and Walter Farran
made a flying trip to Lytle Tuesday,
and seem pleased with the improve
ments that has been added of late
Misses Louise Whittet and Alice
Ballsey visited Mrs. Ross of Iuka
Friday.
R. J. Florgan made a business trip
to Devine one day this week.
Mr. Whittet visited Mr. Farran of
Rossville Sunday.
Alice Morgan has been on the sick
list the past week
The little five year old son of Hr.
John Ogdens, while riding a burro
fell and broke his arm, but is getting
along fine.
The Cotulla Trip.
Mesdames W. B. Adams and 0. F.
Forrester chaperoned twenty-four
school children and teachers to Cotul
to Saturday where they played
basket ball and base ball with the
Cotulla High School teams, losing the
base ball game by a score of 4 to 3
and the basket ball game 9 to 5.
The boys attribute their loss to the
professinal pitching of "Dutch"
Knaggs for the Cotulla team and the
girls were bettered to the defense,
the Cotulla girls being much heavier.
They were entertained in the
evening at Judge Earnest’s by the
teams and returned on the 4, a. m.
train. They speak highly of the
courteous treatment of the Cotulla
people and are eager for a chance to
reciprocate it.
William Thomas Bailey.
The whole community was shock-
ed Tuesday morning when it was
learned that Mr. William Thomas
Bailey aged 64 years, had died rather
suddenly at his farm home, three
miles east from Devine.
Mr. Bailey had a severe spell Sun-
day night and called out Dr. Evans,
Dr. Coble, their family physician be-
ing out of town. Monday, he was up
transacting business; but at 5 o’clock
the next morning, the death mes-
senger came, his death resulting from
apoplexy. Mr. Bailey was a native
of Mississippi but had lived" in
Medina county for 28 years. He
was a Mason, a Praetorian, a member
of the Medina county Aid and of the
Methodist church, a man of a cheer-
ful disposition and liked by all who
knew him.
He leaves a widow, nine sons and
two daughters, several grand children
and a host of friends and relatives
to mourn his loss, The sons are
Rev. Frank Bailey, a Baptist minis-
ter now in Mississippi, D. H. Bailey,
a prominent young business man of
Devine, J. W. Bailey of Sa n Antonio
Geo. W. and Clay Bailey Hondo.
Elmer, Edward, Robert, and Ira, who
lived with their parents at home.
: The daughters are Mrs: James For-
ester of Pearsall and little Ruth, the
youngest of the children.
The funeral yesterday at 11, a. m.
at the Methodist church was conduc-
ted by his pastor, Rev. J. E. Buck and
after which the Masons took charge
of the remains and a procession of
friends and relatives followed the re
mains to the cemetery.

Not much definite news comes .
from Mexico. The revolutionists
seem to have the worst of it and
are not making much headway. The
American side to lined with our
ity.

Church at Sand Branch Saturday
night, Sunday and Sunday night.
There was a good crowd attended
the services though not a large crowd
owing to the bad weather.
The Sand Branch people always
look forward to Bro. Dubose's, ap-
pointment's, he always brings us
Gods message filled with the truth
and rich promises of his teaching
It seems that the message is deliver-
ed just as God would have it done.
Missionary Hornburg was present
during Saturday and Sunday, he
preached some very practical and
soul stirring sermons.
The Ordination of Bro. Robert
Byrom took place on Sunday morn-
Bro. Byrom has been a very
sincere and devoted christian since
his conversion in early life. As it
has been his most ernest desire to be
a winner for Christ we wish him
great succes in in his noble calling.

Engagements Announced
Mrs. Lena L. Griffetts announces
the engagement of her daughter, Hat-
tie, to Mr. John T. Briscoe of Devine,
and the engagement of her daughter,
Lula, toMr. Harry D. Pruett The
weddings will take place on the after-
noon of March 29 at the first Baptist
church. A double wedding is always
doubly interesting and the anounce-
ment is especially so in this case for
the brideselect are among Austin's
prettiest and most popular young
