Are you a "killjoy"? Your negative
is indignant and emphatic. Good:
But unit a minute.
The activities of the ordinary killjoy
we know. The fraternity is out to
spoil in the mass all innocent fun and
gayety. Hut there are other killjoys
These ar not organized ; they don't
wek to spoil the fun of crowds Their
line is to take the joy out of indiv Id
mils, one at a time. And yet they do
it without malice or deliberate intent
But the effect is exactly the same.
Some parents are killjoys, observs
Lomdeswers. They are too par
tieular with their chiidren, too careful,
ion much concerned. A clildi h game
in which angels might join is brought
to a sudden halt. "Bobby, you mustn't
do that !" “Elsie, little gills should
not tear about as though they were
boys. Sit down quietly at once."
The Joy is killed.
Unele gives Tommy a •hilling, and
Tommy, with great joy, pictures what
he will buy. But n killjoy parent in
slsts that the money should lie put in
the savings box.
LAttle Nona, with great joy, lays the
table for tea. Mother will be ao sur-
prised! But mother hits a rebuke.
“Never do that again, Mona! If you
had broken a cup I should have been
very upset !"
Today, without knowing or meaning
it, you may have acted as such a kill-
joy. Have you snubbed anyone? Have
you turned against the enthuslasm of
one of the young and joyous your
older, perhups cynical, wisdom? Have
you laughed in superior fashion at
some eager idea?
Then you are a killjoy. Anything
which darkens the sun of youth or
causes shining, eager eves to cloud or
ends innocent happiness, kills joy, and
those who do the darkening, the cloud
ing, or the like, are killers.

The directors of the band or
ganization are planning quite a
celebration in observanee of the
first anniversary. The public
will have the pleasure and priv
ilege of enjoying a part of the
program.
The tentative program for the
birthday entertainment provides
for a concert on the court house
lawn, where the band will begin
its program by rendering the
first piece of music the boys
learned to play, and will grad
ually play on up to the difficult
numbers which it now renders
Following the concert on the
court house lawn the band mem
bers will enjoy a feast, probably
h watermelon feast, or a spread
at it local cafe.
There aw forty-five members
in the band and they range in
age from 11 to 16, with two or
three adults as beginners. The !
hand has made wonderful prog I
ress, and is now a big asset to the
community. The members are of |
that age where they are mute’
permanently located than older;
heads would be, and they also
take a greater interest in the
music making than the older
heads would, and another year
will bring them still higher ns
musicians of first class.
