but if I could get a horse on a credit I
would give my note again, but that
cannot be done without an accident. Bob
Taylor would advance money & buy you
a horse if you would ask him. I iave
not the money. I requested Nashman to
enquire about one, but he says he found
none for sale. I will get some other persons
to enquire for me yet, but dont depend on
me for one at all. the chances are too bad.
Thomas writes me that J Wendel is in no
danger. Robert had been to see him. he is at
a private house in Atlanta. McNeal did
not allow Irene or Clara & not even Eva
Polk to send a letter by Coats, so I am
not surprised at his refusing me. he was
afraid he might be searched. Your Uncle
William would buy you a horse willingly.
Eddies finger is nearly well, but will always
be stiff, cut thro the joint, 3rd finger on the
right hand. if the rail road is evacuated
I will make him take his poney home &
get me a mule that he can both ride
& work. Hurst has had three of Newsoms
command shot that he captured. he is in
the neighborhood of Allick Neilsons & says
he will fix things so that a guerrilla shall
not be able to live in the state. he has command
of all West tennessee. he was near burning
