Postcard image of a large group of uniformed U.S. soldiers standing or mounted in a group outside St. Genevieve Catholic Church and a wooden gazebo situated in front and to the right of the building. Two men at the front-left part of the image are riding Harley Davidson US Army J Model motorcycles that have attached sidecars. The church has square towers on either side of the entrance with rounded roofs; another building is partially visible to the left of the church and there is a partial sign with the word "Hotel."

Notes

According to discovered information, this is most likely part of Company D, 3rd North Carolina Infantry of the North Carolina National Guard. Researched information from the Military Collection Archives at the State Archives of North Carolina, states: "On February 1, 1917, Company D moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico. On February 7, 1917, Alston’s unit moved to Anapra, New Mexico, and returned to Camp Stewart in El Paso on February 15, 1917. Alston and Company D left Texas on March 15, 1917, arriving at Camp Bickett in Raleigh, North Carolina." Thomas Cheatham Alston was a guardsman assigned to Company D.

Additional historical information: The original St. Genevieve's Church was on the corner of Main Street and Las Cruces Avenue and was dedicated on October 15, 1887.
