Bod}' Of a Decomposed Dead
Man Found Floating in a
Railroad Tank.
The body of a white man, sup-
upsed to be Andy Ganuii, a
bridge carpenter and until recent-
ly employed by the Houston aud
Texas Central railroad company,
was found Monday morning
floating in tLe railroad tank,
5-miles south of McKinney.
\V. W. Tichnor, the pump en-
gineer at the tank, made the dis-
covery.
Justice of the Peace Faulkner
and county Attorney Mangum
went to Allen and began an in-
quest at once but the verdict has
not yet been rendered owing to
delay in finding the dead man's
brother and other important rea-
sons. AH who viewed the body,
which was buried the same even-
ing in the Allen cemetery, are
of the opinion that the man had
been murdered. a> one of his eye-
balls was gone and his head
was crushed. The body had evi-
dently been in the water several
days. A $1000 accident insurance
policy was found in one of the
dead man's pockets bearing the
inscription "Andy Gamm, 555
Rim St.. Dallas." Bill McCargo
foreman of the bridge gang knew
a man by the name of Andy

for him and described liim a> a

FATAL OVERDOSE

the Victim.
Vineland, Tex , March 14, '98.
Mrs. Bettie Sproles. wife of
Sam P. Sproles. daughter of A.
C. Weeks and niece of the writer
died at her home on the 11th inst.
about noon. Her death was the
result of an overdose of morphine
given by her nurse through a mis-
take. Eight tablets of morphine
were folded up in a paper and di-
rections written on the outside to
give one at intervals of 4 or
hours apart, as needed. The tali-
lets contained 1-4 grain of mor-
phine each, thus making eight
doses in the paper. Mrs. Sproles
had been sick for about two weeks
and was convalescing rapidly, but
had pains and restless spells,
which the medicine was given to
relieve. About 4 o'clock a. m..
Friday, she was restless and com-
plained of a pain in one side.
