Announces For
City Alderman
After considerable and careful
deliberation, I have filed thi-
week as a candidate for city
alderman, .object to action of
the city election > hi duled for
April rith
I have not been .-ked to run
for this position, and I ain under
no obligation to any individual
or group. I havt no "axes",
either political or personal, to
grind, and I have no platform
other than the fact that I feel
that now, more than ever in
the nearly '10 years we have
la-en in iia.-tlop. it !- important
that the town unit' in one com-
mon effort tow aid progress.
There n nothing, that we
know of, wrong with the present
city government, and there i no
audible opposition r • the present
council, nor to the work they
are doing. But the town itself
-eems to have unk into a le-
thargic state of indifference—
a "go ahead and do what you
want u 1 don't care" sort of
attitude that i nothing short
of maddening to t: • fn\s who are
trying hard to accomplish bene-
fits for the town.
I hope that, should I be given
the privilege of sitting on the
council, I might i - able through
the Xdvcrti.ser each week to
put before the public detailed
accounts of tie city' pluns and
decisions, bringing to you, a-
\ otcrs, a -ort of behind-the scene-
it -ighl into the city's activities.
Then, if you are in accord with
these plans and activities, it is
your duty to lend your enthu
-m-tir support to help put them
over. If you do not like them,
then it is your privilege, a- a
voter, to say so. But before
you can judge fairly and gn
ally, you must ki. « the fact-
involved. Thc-i facts I proposi
to t-ring to you
I hope, too, that I may l e able

Fuchs Announces
Candidacy For
County Clerk
To The Citizens of Bastrop
County:
i am herewith announcing my
candidacy for the office of coun-
ty clerk of Bastrop County, and
am seeking the nomination of the
Democratic Party for this of-
fice based on the following qual
ifications and experiences:
i am a member of a pioneer
Bastrop County family, the fam-
ily first having acquired land
in Bastrop County in 1883 and
have lived in Bastrop County in
continuity since 18S7. My fam-
ily first came to Texas in 1846,
settling in Fayette County. In
these 114 years in Texas, no
member of this family has been
indicted or convicted of a felony.
Two members of my family
have served tin people of Bas
trop County and their records of
public service arc well known.
Arthur L. Fuchs served as coun
ty commissioner of Precinct 1
foi 12 years. Alex P. Fuchs,
my father, has served the farm
ers of this county and commun-
ity in continuity since 19315 and
is presently a member of the
County ASC Committee.
Personally, I have served the
people of Bastrop County as
clerk in AAA Office, senior
county performance supervisor,
senior range inspector, and coun-
ty supervisor of the Federal
Crop Insurance Corporation.
1 also served as county admin-
istration officer, and custodian
of the CCC, I'SDA, Galveston
Ccunty, resigning this position
to ac ept employment with a
prominent Houston attorney,
Judge Hamilton, with whom 1
was associated until his death.
During this time 1 had the op-
portunity to acquire an educa-
tion in law, both state and fed
oral.
At present 1 am engaged in
the real estate profession as an
independent licensed and bond
ed broker, and am a licensed
ecurity dealer and notary pub-
i also own and operate
a farm, together with my father
and brother. I ivn- born and
r.n.-od on this farm among the
cotton, corn, cockleburrs and
ii.- o. i .its. My position as a loy-
al Democrat well known in
party circles.
Presently I am serving on the
executive committee of the Dem-
ocratic Party, a Precinct Chair-
man of Precinct lb, and a- such
I am presiding judge of party
election, which experience has
afforded me the opportunity to
acquire knowledge of l'exas F

is important in the conduct of
