Bears hang on
to defeat RR for
bi-district
Bastrop's Bears jumped to an
early lead and then had to dig
in the trenches to stave off a
determined Round Rock come-
back, 38-37, in a bi-district ccm-
test at McCallum gym Tuesday.
Three times the Bears built
comfortable margins, only to
have the upset-eager Dragons
nibble them into obscurity. Aft-
er the opening minute, the 24A
champs never trailed, although
the score was tied twice.
Bastrop also beat Round Rock
by a single [xjint in the bi-district
football playoffs last fall.
Bastrop had inflated a seven-
pr:n< U ">i early in the final pe-
rk*; Hii Round Rock stuck a pin
in it. From a 38-33 deficit the
Dra0->"!S .:i,urged back to 38-37
svith 3 pmouI^ remaining as the
Bears' stall -'ailed.
But Round Ri ck put all its eggs
on a last second shot, and when it
careened off the rim, Bastrop
pulled the ball in and nestled
for the victory .
The Bears placed only tsso lwys
in the double figures in the low
scoring battle, Ray Wichmann and
Joe Townsend. Both hit 10 points.
Jim Sherrell top|>ed the Dragons
svith 10.
