A l'mliimli Mule-Driver I'lujn the
"I'lcUir dome."
A Paduouli mule-driver had an amus-
ing adventure on the train on his way
home from Baltimore a few ilaysslnee.
Perching himself upon the arms of a
seat ho added to the mirth of the pas-
sengers by relating his adventures in
Baltimore:
"Well boys I'm jest from town ;
sold my mules and am gwine back to
Paduky. Kanterlng 'round last night
I got lost; hired a. hack and was tuck
to tlio big tavern with marblo-slab
floor; went out again anddrapped in to
see the snake show ; showman took nie
to a glass-kivered case full of watches
and jewelry and 'snaked' me out of a
smart pile trying to win a watch for
Bet ; dropped in another place; feller
had three kards and bet ino a V I
couldn't pick up the one with a pictur
on it; picked up the wrong every time
and lost my pile; but I'll git even
when I git home. You see Bill Thorn-
us is courting my sister; I'll play the
picture game on him win his horse
bridle and saddle and make him walk
homo.
"Paid four dollars at tho tavern for
lodgins; three dollars extra for light!
tried to blow it out and then bumeu
my lingers tryin to snuff it.
;'I give that feller a dollar for the
three cards; got 'em here. Come now
boys who'll bet a V on the pictur?"
"I'll bet three dollars I can pick it
up ' said city youth.
"Oh you're too smart; you'll want
your money to buy your breakfast. I'll
bety ou lifty dollars again your watch."
"Done" said city youth and "Pa-
duky" had that watch in the twink-
ling of an eye. Just then the whistle
blew the cars stopped and "Paduky"
stepped from the train to the platform
and was lost in the darkness. If then
occurred to tho "city boy" that he had
once beard of "three-card nionte" but
did not think a Paducah mule driver
could play it.
Many persons have doubtless re-
marked that in his "Lays of Koine"
Macaulay anticipated the DeMediei by
bringing bullalo into Italy but we sus-
pect few have noticed that one of his
youthful poems introduces parks and
squirrels Into tho age of Caiiu These
two blunders from the snme writer Il-
lustrate tho two sources of anachro-
nisms. Mb. William M. Evakts will de-
liver uu eulogy on Chief Justice Chase
at the next commencement of Dart-
mouth college.

Thl qucntion Is often asked but rarely an-
swered to the satisfaction of the patient.
Our answer Is that pulmonary consumption
in Its Incipient form is a cnroblo as any
other disease If only tho right remedies are
applied. The question naturally arises as to
what are tho remedies t In Teply we state
that Marsden's Pocloral Balm has been used
successfully In over a million of cases and
has been adopted by physicians as the most
reliable remedy known for tho treatment of
Bronchial affections.
One great reason tlmt Marsden's Pectoral
Balm has gained such popularity Is tho fact
that It is witbln the reach of all and can be
purchased from all dealers at fifty ccnU for a
.m.n nr nun dollar a loree bottle. One bot
tle will effect a cure In most cases.
