Hub Castleberry was born in 1902, in Ballinger, Tex,,
and moved at an early age with his family to Andrews, Texas.
In 1918, at the age of sixteen, he began cooking for traildrives
and roundups, as he seemed to have a natural aptitude
for cooking.
"My first job was with the Scharbauer Cattle Company,
which was around Midland, Tex. We had cowboys, neighboring
ranchers, and small homesteaders helping us roundup and

brand.
"The McElroy or Y Ranch was one of the best ranches I
ever cooked for. This was one of the biggest ranches in
Crane County at this time. While on this ranch, I had some

of the best times I ever had while cooking."
"I worked at the C Ranch, which is in Ector County, and
was owned by the Faskins, for about eleven years. Most of
the ranches I cooked for were in the Midland, Crane and

Rankin areas."
"When I wasn't cooking on a roundup, I stayed at the

headquarters of whichever ranch I was working for.t
