4 City may cut
ties from festival
The future of the St.
Paul Square Summerfest
is in jeopardy.
Last week the city
audit department released
a report indicating that
more than $42,000 is
missing from last year's
three day festival.
Based on the
calculations of the
products purchased for
sale and other
ducmentation, the
organization should
account for $42,890.73.
Enough money should
have been, generated to
pay all vendors, including
the $20,504.33 owed to
the City, with about
$9,00 left over as a
profit:'
In a meeting held with
Dr. Zaccaria, Association
president and Barbara
Hawkins, a board
member, it was agreed
that controls were lax
and the event was
understaffed. However,
Zaccaria rejected the
data used to determine
the number of servings
one keg of beer produced.
Hawkins held a
"pouring" Wednesday to
show how many cups of
beer can be poured in a
14 oz. Cup. Hawkins said
146 cups were poured.
"That does not take into
account spillage. Hawkins
said that accounts for
$21,000 and added that
$2,000 donation was
never received. She added
that $5,000 spent on
contract labor was
counted as an expense by
the auditor. She said the
other dispute is the sale
of wine coolers and
sodas.
It was recommended
that future
co-sponsorships with St,
Paul Square Assn. be
suspended.
''They are not allowing
for spillage, giveaways
and kegs of beer donated
to the hospitality room,"
Hawkins said.
"The City Council
should not make decisions
before knowing all the
facts," Hawkins added.
"We are going to continue
to fight this thing until
this is cleared up. We
don't want to be left
with a black eye."
the computer network for
outstanding warrants.
A person whose name
matches with an active
warrant is allowed to
finish the dirver's license
renewal and then is asked
to go to another room,
DPS spokesman said.
The agency which has
placed the warrant on the
computer is then
contacted to make sure
the warrant is still active.
The agency is advised of
the detention and asked
what it wants done with
the suspect.
If the agecy is local, an
officer will pick up the
suspect. If it is an out of
state agency, then a
trooper will take the
suspect to jail.
