William Woodworth Bogel, better known to all of his
friends as Judge Bogel was one of the largest stockmen of
Presidio County, in which his ranch is located, and to which
he came in the early eighties, locating near Marfa. Bher

a part of the frontier, the Southern Pacific having Just recently
built its line thereml atu can be sure that Judge 4
was a man of strong character and endurance because you had
to be for a country like this. The Bogel ranch was established
in 1901, at San Esteban, twelve miles South of Marfa.
Colonel "Jim" Ellison formal1)wned it. The ranch consisted
of sixty thousand acres of fine grazing land, on which Mr.
Bogel ran approximately thirty-six hundred head of Highland
Herefords and registered cattle.
William Woodworth Bogel was born on the fine day of the
23rd of July, 1855, at Goshen, Ohio. He was the son of AugusttUs
J. Bogel and Julia W. Bogel. His father was a pioneer
druggist of Louisana. Judge was educated in the schools of
Baton Rouge, attending private schools for the most part, and
later enter Louisiana State University,at Baton Rouge from
which he was graduated in 1874, with the B.A. degreetter
he graduated he worked in his fatherdrug store until his
health began to f L, and physician advised him to West.
