THINGS HAPPEN
IN ALBANY
NO LUNCHEON SATURDAY
FOR C. OF C.
There will not be a luncheon
Saturday noon for the Chamber of
Commerce. Thin is because the
ladies in charge of the school lunch
room will be busy preparing the
junior-senior banquet, which will
be Saturday evening.
Albany hu.s one of the few
: .chambers of commerce that meet
/weekly and have luncheons. This
keeps interest up in the work of
the organization . . . and adds
a great deal of fellowship and
cooperation in all undertakings.
Members who miss the regular
weekly luncheons are the losers,
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
SOFT BALL TEAMS TOUGH
Coach A. F. Speck's Cubs, both
boy- and girls, are tough oppon-
ents in soft ball this season. This
conclusion is drawn from the fact
that they are winning practically
all their games.
Last Friday they played Anson, I
the Albany boys, winning 7-5, and
the Albany girls 38-31.
Wednesday Unird played here,
and the Albany boys won !l-l and
the local girls overwhelmed the
visiting young ladies 2(1 to 5.
Coach Speck announces that his
teams will go to Stamford Satur-
day to enter the district tourna-

MOISTURE ASSURES
GRAIN CROP
A shower last Thursday after-
noon broke a month's drouth in
Shackelford county, and brought
hopes t'n farmers and rancher- for
a wheat and oats crop thi- year.
Grain was suffering, and a few
more days of dry weather would
have ruined all prospect of a grain
crop.
Athough only .34 incti of rain
was registered here last Thursday,
some parts of the county received
more than an inch.
Following Thursday's shower
was the fine rain Saturday after-
noon that registered ,!)fi inch in
Albany. The .section east of A1
bany, at Sedwick and Moran re
reived more than two inches, it is
reported, and other parts of the
county received more moisture
than Albany. This rain was ac
companied by a thunder storm and
a little hail.
Farmers report grain was bene
fitted by the moisture, and a grain ^
crop will lie harvested, although
probably not a. large as ha.- been
combined the past two -ea. on. .
Farmer- have their land in good
condition for planting and the rain
added to the season's prospect. . ,
The dry earth soaked mo t of
the moisture up, and little watei
was stored in lake and tank ,
Deep Creek came down about a
fourth hank full from the lain

Holes are being dug this
for the light poles at the ■oft ball
diamond at the city park. Mllf
local people have been aiding th*
Albany Service club in this project.
Special thanks go to tile Gailotl
Fxploration boys who made a spoe>
lal bit and took their equipment
to the park to drill the holes with
their portable drilling machinery.
This thoughtfulness saved the dab
considerable money in digging the
seven foot holes. The bit struck
rock at about five feet, and the
remainder of the depth will havo
to be dug by hand.
The West Texas Utilities Co.
force will elect the poles and put
up the reflectors and do the wir-
ing.
Work will be done on the dia-
mond to get it in good condition
for soft ball league play, to begin
in May.
Members of the Service club
borrowed $1,200, and with donat-
ed labor, expect to put up a very
fine set of base ball lights. The
ciub will sponsor league play this
summer, as they have done in the
past, and expect to repay the bor-
rowed money from gate receipts.
All team managers are urged to
get their teams organized for the
summer league play.
