we could is because as a retired MSgt (in 1980), and as a
playboy, I never saved for my old age and knew we wouldn't
have the chance to return overseas. So, sign up and go if you
can, you will love the trip.
For now, take care, God Bless, and Good Luck to You All.

Greetings — you have been selected by your friends and
neighbors to join your Division's annual reunion in Columbus,
Ohio, this Aug. 26-31. Orders for those days will be to have a
good time; the uniform of the day will be casual and there will
be no guard duty - so you don't have to use the 11th general
order, "I will walk my post from flank to flank and take no
crap from anyone below my rank."
While at the winter board meeting in Columbus, I was able
to reserve one of the large hospitality rooms for the 119th. The
hotel gave us this free of charge. I was also able to reserve our
large room for our Friday night dinner, also free of charge.
I feel that our Hellkittens will like the hotel because it is in
the middle of the city's stores and the hotel has a mini mall
under the same roof. The hotel has twenty stories but they
have four high speed elevators.
One thing you may give some consideration is to order your
plane tickets early. I called about prices and was told it would
cost Bernie and me $700.00 each to fly to Columbus. The travel
agent advised we wait for an air fare war, which we did, and we
got our tickets for only $200.00 each.
The cost for our Friday night dinner will be $20.00 each, this
includes tax and tips. We will have the choice of baked fish or
beef. And of course salad, dessert and drinks.
Our roving reporter Jules Tervay has reported that he had
been in the hospital once again and I feel when the doctors tell
him something is wrong with him, Jules will just tell them that
he has been there, did that, and has the tee shirt to prove it.
Hang in there Jules.
Jules also reports that our old buddy Paul Hempfling [DIV
TRNS] has been under the weather. He could use your letters
and cards to help him get back to top shape once again.
Dale Miller, unit rep for the 493rd, has a health problem and
could also use your words of encouragement. Dale and his Hell-
kitten Marian, our Historian, have always been hard working
members of our association.
I called our John Hendricks who has also been on sick call for
a long time. He told me that he has had several operations and
lost too much weight, and now is trying to get back to normal.
His Hellkitten Pat is also having a health problem. We wish
you two the best and hope you get well soon. John and Pat
have been co-chairs of our hospitality room at our reunions for
years and we miss them.
We received a letter from Sidney Goodman's son Fred,
thanking us for the 12th bolo tie we sent him. Sidney is in a
rest home in Virginia Beach, VA. Please drop in to see him if
you are in that area, he has Alzheimers but sometimes he is
well aware of what's going on and enjoys the HCN at that
time. Sidney was one of our Medics that was awarded the
Silver Star. I could have sent Sidney flowers but I felt that he
would rather have the bolo tie. What do you think?
Charles Thomas sent us our bank statement and as of 2/1/97
we had $723.71. We sent the money for a good-sized standing
wreath for the dedication at Ft. Campbell. The cost of the bolo
tie also will come out of that amount.
Charles' son Mark is doing OK with his bout with the big C.
Charles is still able to hit the ski slopes, in his area they give
free lift tickets to anyone over 70. I doubt if that will break
them as there are few like Charles that can still get around that

Lena remains an associate member.
much.
Sam Leone's sister wrote to us after I asked how Sam got
into Co. A, I did not remember a Co. D being in our battalion.
Sam joined the 12th like myself, just before shipping out, he
was wounded on Jan. 16, 1945, and was shipped to England to
recover. When he came back to the 12th he was in Co. A and
HQ. His sister Lena also reports that his wife passed away in
1961. He enjoyed the HCN.
Lena is an associate member and wrote that she also enjoys
the HCN. Sam of course, was awarded the Purple Heart and
also the Conspicuous Service Medal. He kept in contact with
Nick Morgillo [B] for many years.
John Parkison had a call from "Doc" Savage's wife, Fern.
She is looking for information about her husband's army life.
John was able to fill her in on alot of it. I also asked Charles
Thomas to drop her a line. If you knew "Doc" please take the
time to write Fern at 22 Garden dr., Montgomery, IL 60538 or
call her at 630-264-0970.
Glenn and Mary McCune pay the Parkisons a visit often as
they live nearby. Glenn is still into wood carving and attends
many shows around the country.
There was a lot of work done at the Winter Board Meeting,
yet one thing that was put off until our next meeting in Aug.
was just how long we can remain an active association because
of our age.
Norb Bruemmer, our Treasurer, told the members of the
board he felt that our finances would last until 2003. I have
asked before and will again, "What you as a member think
along this line. Our job is to do what you want but if you sit on
your hands, how will we ever know?"
I saw in the minutes of the Winter Meeting that the associa-
tion paid for our rooms, the hotel gave us five rooms free and
only charged us for two.
We want to send along a thank you to Joe Lauria for sending
us some pictures he took at the last reunion in Wash, D.C. If
you send me pictures that you do not want back, let me know
and I will send them on to the ACU for our 119th collection.
