Mclean —
Joe Lauria
[B-119].
Mesa, AZ, wearing his 12th cap when a man came up to him
and told him that he was also in the 12th. It was Jim
Meisenbach. We don't usually list our members' rank but
when a person goes from enlisted man to General he deserves
to be noticed.
I'm happy to report that none of our members needed to be
boosted this year. If you are a Hellkitten that has lost her hus-
band, you can receive the HCN at no cost to you, but you must
write our Executive Secretary, Bob Head, or your rep at least
once a year and let us know that you are still interested in the
association.
One snow bunny has returned to his summer home in
Waseca, MN. Melvin Meyer and Inez are ready to enjoy God's
country once again.
Bill Confer is still roaming around the country and I bet his
Hellkitten is keeping a close watch on him after he walked into
a 5th wheel trailer and had his lights go out for awhile.
Bill and Vonda have a 12th Armd tire cover on their RV and
in Florence, AZ, a man saw it and came over to talk with them
because he was with the 12th from Luneville until the war was
over. He was in the 572nd AAA. They also have an association
and they are part of the 12th, in fact there are some members
in our new roster under the 572nd. Let's hope they join us in
our association. I remember seeing their four 50 cal. guns
mounted in their halftrack around us many times. I might add
it was a welcome sight.
Well, folks, it's time to wrap up this visit for another month.
I'll give you a few things to plan in the next few months. Feel
free to send me your check for the Friday night dinner at
$20.00 per person. We will have a kitty in the Hospitality room
for the drinks and snacks, the room is free but we will have it
well stocked.
Let me know what you feel should be our shut off year for
our association. Watch for the newspaper from ACU and the
offer they make for donations as the premiums are well worth
the donation you make, the more the money the more the
premiums you will receive. If you have a video camera, set
down in front of it and record your history with the 12th and
send it to the ACU. I just did a two hour tape and I felt no
pain.

April showers bring May flowers, so they say. Hope this
becomes a reality as it's been a long winter in WI. Planning to
attend a chapter reunion and the National in Columbus, OH?
Please be there while health permits us to do so.
This is a subject I hate to bring up but several years back we
had a couple benefactors (since passed on) who contributed to
our Bn expenses. As of now we are about $100 minus and with
the KIA Memorial dedication coming up in May, I feel it would
be appropriate for our unit to have a wreath at the ceremony
along with the other units. I am going to go ahead with this as
I'm sure you all would agree to doing this for all our KIA
buddies. So donations of any amount would be appreciated.
Thanks very much.
Howard and Janice Bullwinkle [C] write that they had a
wonderful time at the McLean reunion. They particularly
enjoyed the touching Memorial Service at Arlington and the
parade of our Bn flags. The Holocaust Museum was memora-
ble considering they visited Dachau on the first ADA tour.
The Military Vehicle display was worth every minute. During
the parade a veteran near them was moved to tears and said "I
never thought I'd ever hear those sounds again." They feel
this was the most enjoyable reunion they ever attended. I
agree that it was a great site for a reunion.
Warren and Frances Spitler [CI write they celebrated their
50th wedding anniversary in May with a special mass with
their family along with their daughter and son-in-law who
celebrated their 25th. Warren has circulatory problems and
while vacationing in Phoenix in Nov. he had angioplasty per-
formed above the knee. Their son from Nevada visited them,
then later they flew home for Thanksgiving and a grandson's
fifth birthday. He strongly recommends Las Vegas for a
reunion as the prices are right. I concur with that. Good to
hear from you.
Louise Hooper, widow of Wayne [A], writes that it's such a
blessing to have Rich and Sandy back in town. They moved
into their new home and helping them has kept her busy. In
Jan. she flew to Tampa where her granddaughter works for the
Florida Crime Lab. It amazed her how people in this field can
solve crimes with a microscope. Another daughter lives in
Avon Park, FL, so Louise hopes to visit with Vern Miller [A].
She called him after the first article appeared in the HCN
about him. Then on to Columbus, GA, to visit and watch a
grandson in a high school play and basketball. You've been a
busy Hellkitten, Louise. Hope you plan to make the Columbus
reunion.
Bea and Franklin Kennedy [BJ write from beautiful Punta
Gorda that they are both well and enjoying the warm weather
in FL.
Del and Blanche Brewer [A], the happy travelers, are still on
the move. They commented about our moving, "We go up to
our place in Pinconning, MI, look inside and back out. We
could never move because of all our junk. It is stacked to the
ceiling, plus the garage and tool shed are packed full of old
cars and tractors. When we go up we stay in our motorhome.
Spent a month up there last summer and took our old Cub
Cadet tractor with the double-wide seat and rode around the
back roads for a couple hours each day. Put a seat belt in it for
Blanche so she can't fall off.
"She can't walk but she sure loves to ride on her lawn
mower. Went to the Abilene reunion and visited the site of
Camp Barkeley and also the Buffalo Gap Museum. The town
sure has changed since we lived there. Both houses we called
home are gone. Visited Roger and Helen Scott [A] on the way
down and Helen was recovering from her heart attack. He and
I used to leave camp and have dinner at a cafe in View. This
winter we will go back down and explore the beaches of Padre
Islands before going to Mission, TX. Then to AZ before
coming home." Gosh, you two sure do get around and I've
always said a person should when they can. Thanks and bless
you both.
This has been a bad month insofar as bad news goes. We
have several buddies who have passed away. A sister of
Stanley Erickson [B1 writes he passed away Oct. 10, 1996. He
