JJavid Jordan began his new
duties as administrator of Shack
el ford «'ounty Hospital District on
Monduy, openly confronting the
challenge of guiding the local fa
cility toward better times.
"Once 1 finished school, my ca-
reer goal was to be at a rural hos-
pital," stated Jordan, Who is mov-
ing to Albany from New Braunfels,
where lie Was Special .Manage..

morial Hospit al J
"We were looking for a small
town closer to our families," he
continued "1 wanted a place we
could stay forever, where I could
hopefully make an impact by
helping improve local healt h care.
'Tills is a good, solid community
With active, concerned citizens, and
I'm looking forward to having my
funiily here and getting involved "
Jordan's wife Leslie and their
three daughters plan to lie in Al
bany by February 27
The new local adiiiiriistrator
completed requirements for a
bacheloi ofsdencedegree in health
care administration at Southwest

Marcos last year.
Prior to re entering college, he
was district drilling representative
with Chevron, USA foi U years.
At STStf, Jordan was ranked in
the top three out of 60 healthcare
administrative interns and in the
toil 10 percent of /ill healthcare
adinihistrution graduates from
Southwest Texas.
He served u 60-day internship
at Edgar B. Davis Memorial Hos-
pital, a rural facility in Luling about
tlie size of the local hospital, and
then went on to McKenrta, where
he has been since August
Even though he luis been acti ve
in actual hospital administration
less than a year, Jordan, already
has experience in personnel and
physician recruitment, rural heaitli
clinics, capital approprititidns and
grant writing, financial analysis,
market assessment and several
other areas.
After only two days on the job,
Jordan found himself immersed in
at least four major projects to iiri
prove local healthcare, several of
I hem already well underway before
he stepped into his new office
Among the projects are the fol-
lowing:
• Open the local rurul health
clinic by mid-March;
• Obtain a grant to build a heli-
pad in order to provide emergency
transportation for those too criti-
cally injured or ill to be served
locally;
• Promote public awareness of
the hospital lab's recently achieved
status as a "reference lab," mean-
ing that the lab tech is qualified
and has the equipment to perform
tests for any area physician;
• Help with the recrui tment of a
new physician or physicians for
Albany and Shackelford County
Jordan ahjo expressed an inter-
est in improving the appearance of
the hospital grounds.
Since making the decision to
accept the position at the Shack-
elford County hospital, Jordan has
discovered Several local ties. His
parents, Mr. and Mrs. L.R. (Red)
Jordan, lived in Albany for a short
time around I960, and years before
that, his father attended elemen-
tary School in Moran.
