■ between 30 and 40.volunteers,
some on horseback with dogs,
searched for almost six hours for a
local nursing home resident who
wandered away from the facility
early on the morning of Friday,
February 10
Jean Williams, 73, was found
about noon on Friday by two
sheriffs deputies at the Fort Grif-
fin Fandangle's Prairie Theater
after leaving the Bluebonnet
Nursing Home at approximately
5" GO a m
Williams,who has had a history
of taking long walks while at the
local nursing home, left by the front
door early Friday morning, ac-
cording to administrator Pat Bry-
ant,
"When the door alarm sounded
the nurses were busy with other
residents at the time and .couldn't
locate who used the door," said
Bryant. "As soon as the found
that Mrs Williams was not in her
room, they called city patrolman
Lynn Wilkins and the sheriffs de-

The doors are locked from'the
outside sp no one can get in at night
unless they are allowed in, but the
doors can be opened from the in-
side."
Opening the doors after hours
sets off the alarm system
Williams was fully dressed when
she was found and in good shape
considering her ordeal.
"She apparently had to cross over
a couple of fences to get where she
was. She had fallen and scraped
her hands and knees, and had some
scratches, on her face, but luckily
nothing serious,"
Bryant added that fortunately it
was not an extremely cold morning.
She was taken to the Shackel-
ford County Hospital by ambu-
lance, where she was examined
and held overnight for observation
In addition to the local law en-
forced ent off cert ci ty off rial s, and
members of the Albany Volunteer
Fire Department, employees on
horseback from the French Rob-
ertson. Prison Unit near Abilene
called to joined the search
"We certainly- thank everyone
who helped with th^search," said
Bryant "The response by the
community was great "
' The search was concentrated in
the area between U.S. Highway
180 and Cook Field Road by mid-
morning after a wig belonging to-
Williams was found along County
Road 187, about halfway between
the two highways.
