Notes

Reverend English P. Kennedy was born in Red River County, Texas, on October 11, 1876, to Michael Dickson Kennedy and Elizabeth English Kennedy, both of whom died soon after his birth. Kennedy was raised by an aunt in Batesville, Arkansas, who was the wife of the founder and president of Arkansas College, where Kennedy would later attend school. He graduated from Louisville Seminary in 1898 and began work soon after in Black Rock, Arkansas. He made his way to Beaumont where he was pastor of the Central Presbyterian Church from 1909 to 1920. In 1920 he changed to the Baptist ministry and moved to preach at Corsicana, Texas. During his years in Beaumont, the church attendance grew from about sixty members to well over three hundred.
