DROWNED IN BEER.
Concerning this 1'opultir lteverage Two
Men Kxpri-nn their Mind*.
"The fact is sir, and you may stick a pin
there, that the people of this country are
likely to be drowned in a flood of lager
beer," shouted an enthusiastic teetotaler
the other day into the ear of your corner-
ed correspondent. That German drink has
struck us hard. It is the second deluge.
Yes, and the worst of this beer drink-
ing business is that it gets up kidney trou-
bles, as a heavy wind raises the waves,"
added a cily physician, who had a knowl-
edge of the times and a tendency to meta-
ihor. "The midnight 'schooner' leaves
jchind it a wake of furred tongues, head-
aches, torpid livers, nausea, and all that
and lays the foundation of Bright's Dis-
ease."
This melancholy fact accounts in part for
the increasing sales of liKNSONS CAP-
SINK POROUS PLASTER, which at
once mitigates these symptRms. Price 25
cents. Ask your physician about it.

The protest of the Vassar

Not long ago Mrs. Charles
Baldwin, of St. Joseph, Mo.,
received a postal order for #22,
and gave it to her husband to
cash. By way of a joke, he
handed her only #20, explaining
that the postoffice charges
were #2. Thinking that this
was an exhorhitant fee,she com-
plained without her husbands
knowledge, to her mother, who
had sent the postal order, and
she in turn complained to the
office at which it had been
drawn. The postmaster for-
waided a statement of the case
to Washington, and the depart-
ment forthwith sent Inspector
Metcalf all the way to St. Jos-
eph to investigate the case.
The husband will pay over all
the money next time.
