Party on a Tour of Inspection Spend a
Half Hour Here this Morning. Im=
proveraents to be Made.
From Tuesday’s Daily.
A special train, consisting of
three cars, including “Palestine,”
Mr. Trice’s private car, came in
from Palestine this morning at
8:30, and remained half an hour.
The following officials of the
road were aboard:
Leroy Trice, second vice-presi-
dent and general manager,
G. L. Noble, assistant general
manager,
G. H. Turner, general freight
agent,
D. J. Price, general passenger
agent,
George Hunter, assistant mas-
ter mechanic,
A. L. Bowers, superintendent
bridge and building department,
T. C. Rady, division superin-
tendent, Longview division,
Thos. Hume, division superin-
tendent, San Antonio division,
H. R. Irvine, division superin-
tendent, Ft. Worth division,
-Larimer, trainmaster, Ft.
Worth division,
H. L. Houseman, paymaster,
Conductor George Russ in
charge of train.
While here the officials made
an inspection of the yards, and
decided upon the building of an
additional spur track, to begin
near the crossing above the Com-
press and extend west to the
depot platform. This will necessi-
tate the movirg of the Jake Love
packing shed and the old beer
house, in order to make room for
the new track.
They will also have an express
office built west of the depot, so
that the express may be attended
to independent of telegraph and
ticket office and of the baggage
room. The express building
will be connected with the depot
by a shed.
The special will make a tour of
the entire system, which will
probably require the balance of
this week. Paymaster House-
man is distributing checks among
the employes, and is therefore j
given the glad hand all along the
line.
Big Crop of Irish Potatoes.
H. B. McWilliams, secretary of
theHarrisonCodnty Truck Grow-
ers’ association, was in town yes-
terday, and stated to a Messenger
reporter that truck stuff now
looked fine and that potatoes would
be a bigger crop than they ever
had before. Mr. McWilliams
said he had just placed an order
for seven thousand potato sacks
at $46.65 per thousand. This is
not nearly all the bags they will
use, but as the price of bags is
going up, it was thought best to
order now. The bags will be
printed with the name of the as-
sociation on each, which will ad-
vertise the county in the north-
ern markets to which the poto-
toes are shipped.—Marshall Mes-
senger. _
