Petition Filed With Commiuion for New
Route Between Amarillo and Fort
Worth, Shortening Route
The Rock Inland Railroad filed a petition with the Int«l^
state Comnoerce Commission Thursday asking permisaioa
to construct 108 miles of new line from Shamrock to Quanth
and to establish running rights over other railroads to create
a new rail route between Amarillo and Fort Worth. The
proposed line would shorten the distance from 457 milee to
880.
An original petition by the Rock Island to lay down a
line from Groom to Paducah recently was withdrawn b»
cause of the distance to be covered and the great expense
entailed.
It ulso was indicated in the petition that the Friaco will
; apply for permission to cohstruct a line from Quanah to
Vernon.
The plan for the new route, as outlined in the bid for
, (lermission, would send Rock Island trains over the proposal
line from Shamrock to Quanah on its own rails; over the
Frisco from Quanah to Vernon and from Vernon to Seymour
over Frisco rails, which it already has applied for permit
sion to build, and from Seymour to Jacksboro over the Gull,
Texas and Western system. From Jacksboro to Fort Worth
the Rock Island would run over its own lines.
The Frisco now has an application pending before the
commission to purchase the Gulf, Texas and Western.
