S. L. RANDLETT, President.
A Narrow Escape.
Parent-Teacher Association
A.,H. Morton received quite se-
rious injuries Saturday morning
when an interurban car struck his
mower as he was crossing the
track, at \\ averly. Mr. Morton
was cutting weeds for the county
along th^ roadway. He crossed
the track and the machine hung
on the rail. The moforman did
not see that the mower was
caught in time to stop the car,
which is said to have tilled the
seat, throwing Mr. Morton off.
and in the fall he received a se-
vere cut on the back of his head
and bruises on the body.
Walter Taylor, who was on the
car. was the first to reach Mr.
Morton. He said the brakes were
applied with force as soon as the
machine was observed to be
caught, and the car coasted for
some twenty feet. Others were
attracted by the signals of the in-
terurban and Mr. Morton was
brought home in J. H. Hudson's
car, after first aid had been given.
He is doing as well as possible,
the nature of his injuries consid-
ered, hut his memory of the acci-
dent has not become clear.
ft was a very close call and his
friends are congratulating him on
his escape.

The Parent-Teachers’ Associa-
tion met in a social meeting at the
home of the president last Wed-
nesday afternoon. After a musical
program, which consisted of solos
by Mesdames J. E. Wilson, P. Wr.
Henry and Miss Margaret Mc-
Donald. and a musical number by
Miss Irene Guy and reading by
Mrs. Lester White, the club en-
joyed a contest of old slang ex-
pressions, which showed how well
versed some were in the slang
use. and the ignorance of others.
Some wholesome jokes were pull-
ed off on some of the club mem-
bers. hot to save further investi-
gation it is thought best to keep
same out of the press. One of
the largest crowds of the season
enjoyed the social and extended a
vote of thanks to Mrs. Wroten
for her hospitality and her faith-
fulness in the club work.
Delicious sandwiches and re-
freshing iced tea were served.—
