Saturday, June 6
Soap Box Derby
On Saturday, June 6, the Texas Midwest
Soap Box Derby will take place on the Crane
Street Hill. Along with races, there will be
food and adult challenges. For more infor-
mation or to sign up for an adult race contact
Weston Pybum at 325-933-4382.
Roscoe Family Extravaganza
The Roscoe Academic Booster Club will
put on the first Family Extravaganza on
Saturday, June 6, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at
the Roscoe Elementary School playground.
There will be several family relay races and
games including tug-of-war, sack races, an
obstacle course and other activities. There
will also be inflatables and a watermelon-
eating contest. The cost to enter the con-
test is $1 per person. There will also be
a seed-spitting contest. Airbrushed tattoos
and music will also be part of the festivities.
Hot dogs, chips and drinks will be served.
Gift certificates will be awarded. Cost for the
event is $5 per family. For more informa-

Blackwell Play Day
Blackwell Riding Club will have a play day-
beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 2009,
at the Blackwell roping arena. There will
be chute clogging, goat tying, barrels, pole
bending, straight-away barrels and (lags.
The cost is $4 per event and concessions
will be available. For more information, call

Violence Prev ention for Women
A Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) Systems
course for women will be given Saturday,
June 6, as well as the following Saturday,
depending on participation numbers. The
course, sponsored by the Big Country Medical
Reserve Corps, Sweetvvater-Nolan County
Health Department and Babcock and Brown
Power Operations Powers, LLC, is 12 hours,
with six hours attended each separate day.
Topics will include risk awareness, preven-
tion strategies, use of personal weapons and
the decision to resist. Resistance techniques
will be taught and practiced. The training is
open to all area women of all ages and girls
ages 12-16, if a female guardian attends with
them. No other men besides the instructor
will be allowed to attend or observe the class.
A location has not yet been chosen. The fee
is $20 per person and 30 participants are
needed to have this course. To register or for
more information, call the Swetwater-Nolan
County Health Department at 235-5463.
Sunday, June 7
Reception
A moving away reception honoring Gay
Storch will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday,
June 7, 2009, at Sweetwater Christian
School, located at 507 Locust Street. All
former St. Stephens School and Sweetwater
Christian School students co-workers and
the public are invited to attend.
Revival
Nolan Baptist Church will host a revival
with Evangelist Herman Kramer Sunday,
June 7, through Wednesday, June 10.
Times will be 11 a.m. Sunday morning, 6
p.m. Sunday evening and Monday through
Wednesday at 7 p.m. Music will be provided
by Called Out, Jimmy Davis, Randy Hanes,
Vicky Hanes and Raymond Lambert. There
will he a Mexican food dinner served imme-
diately following the Sunday morning wor-
ship service.
Monday, June 8
Lady Mustang Basketball Camp
The Lady Mustang Basketball Camp will be
held Monday through Thursday, June 8-11,
at the Sweetwater High School gym. The
camp is for grades 2-8 based on the 2008-09
school year, and will be from 9-11:30 a.m.
each day. Pre-registration is encouraged,
and the fee will include a T-shirt. A conces-
sion stand will be available. The goal of the
camp is to improve basketball skills through
instruction in individual skills and fun team
competitions.
Evangelical Methodist VBS
Evangelical Methodist Church will have
their Vacation Bible School from 6-8:30 each
evening from Monday, June 8, to Friday,
June 12, at the church, located at 700 Lamar
Street. The theme is “Searching For New Life
in Jesus.”
Tuesday, June 9
KMA Electromechanics
SEED and EMA-Electromechanics
will have a ground breaking event, wel-
coming EMA to the Sweetwater/Nolan
County Community. It will take place at 16
Industrial Drive, across from Texas TST, in
the Sweetwater Industrial Park on Tuesday,
June 9.2009, at 10 a.m.
Summer Reading Program
It is time for the summer reading program
at the County-City Library. The theme this
year is “Libraries: Deep In The Heart of
Texas!”. The program will begin at 10 a.m.
on Tuesday, June 9, 2009, with a magic
and story program with Harlin Rhoades
presenting Read Across Texas. Come to the

Masons
Sweetwater Masonic Lodge #571 will have
a stated meeting Tuesday, June 9. Dinner
will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting
will begin at 6:30 p.m. Before the regular
meeting, community- builder awards will be
opened and presented to the Sweetwater
Municipal Band. After the ceremony, mem-
bers will meet in regular session and elect
officers for 2009-10 year. All members are
urged to attend. Family and friends of the
band are invited to attend.
Thursday, June 11
Closing Ceremonies
Closing ceremonies for all Tee Ball, Farm
League, Minor league, Major League, Junior
Ix-ague and Senior League baseball players
will be held Thursday, June 11, at 5:30 p.m.
The ceremonies wili be held at the Farm
League and Tee Ball field. The ceremonies
end at 6:30 p.m. and will be followed by a
swimming party for all of the players at the
city pool from 6:30-8 p.m. Players should
wear their team shirts and swimsuits.
Free Blood Sugar Checks
The Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital
Diabetes Outreach Program will sponsor a
free blood sugar check at the Sweetvvater-
Nolan County Health Department, from 8
a.m. to noon on Thursday, June 11, 2009.
The SNCHD is located at the corner of 12th
and Elm Street.
