Commissioners Court recap m students attend state convention

The Nolan County Commissioners Court held a regu-
lar meeting on Monday morning at the courthouse.
Items of interest on the agenda included:
• A proclamation recognizing breast cancer awareness
month was unanimously approved by the commission-
ers. The month of October has been designated as breast
cancer awareness month, and according to County

Dodge Challenger to be
given at golf tournament
The TDC,I Wallace/Ware Complex will have the
7th Annual SECC Golf Tournament Friday, Oct. q,
2009, at the Wolf Creek Golf Course in Colorado City'.
Registration will begin at 7 a.m. with a shotgun start at
9 a.m.
The fee is $50 per player (including green fee, cart
and lunch) and all proceeds benefit Christmas In Action
and the Correction Peace Officer Foundation. The for-
mat is a four man team scramble, beverages and lunch
will be available for non-players for a small donation.
Teams total handicap must be 45 or above. Teams must
be able to verify handicap through home golf course
and golf pro.

The Sweetwater FFA went to the State FFA Convention in Dallas July 7-10. The
state voting delegates voted on important issues that would affect the FFA for years
to come and also picked the incoming state officers. Sweetwater voting delegates
included Carlee Smith, Amanda Erwin and Kyle Howard. Several members were
awarded Lone Star FFA Degrees, which is the highest ranking award an FFA
member can receive from the state. Among the winners were Corbin Smith, Jordan
Lawrence, Jarred Clowers, Zeke Ensenia and David Crawford. The cotton judging
team was also recognized at the convention for winning state. The team included

Bergstrom named2009Outstanding Female

The Outstanding Female
Citizen award for 2009 was
given to Karan Bergstrom.
Maijorie Wilks, last year's win-
ner, presented her with the
award.
Currently, Bergstrom serves
as corresponding secretary for
Xi Alpha Alpha Kappa chapter
of Beta Sigma Phi sorority.
Bergstrom is very involved
with her church, First United
Methodist Church. She is
the board president for the
Children's Day Out program at
First United Methodist Church.
She is the secretary and a past
president of United Methodist
Women an is the co-chair for a
gala being held Saturday, Oct.
24, 2009, that will benefit the
church's ministries. Bergstrom
volunteers when she is need-
ed at the food pantry at her
church, Gaylord's Pantry.
Bergstrom is in charge of the
Seniors in Touch banquet held
in May of every year. She also
serves on various committees
and volunteers at schools where
her grandchildren attend.
Her most treasured time is
spent playing with her grand-
