the Harlan G. Andrews A-

at conference
The Area V South Office
Education Association Youth
Leadership Conference was
held at the Shamrock Hilton
Hotel, March 8-9. Seven-
teen Bellaire High students
participated in many con-
tests, some of which were
typing, filing, public speak-
ing, accounting, talent, bus-
iness spelling, and business
math.
The theme for this year’s
conference was "Students
Sharing — Students Caring”.
Bellaire placed first in the
Accounting (Level 11) comp-
etition by Andrea Spain, re-
porter/historian of the chap-
ter.

Saturday will be the last
chance of baseball players
to join the Bellaire Little
League. Players will be
unable to pleaced on a ro-
ster if they nave not atten-
ded a tryout. The final t-
ryout will be held at the 1-
ittle league field at the co-
rner of Fifth and Jessamine
Streets. All boys ages 10
to 12 who live within the ci-
ty limits of Bellaire are
eligible.
The little league is oper-
ated by funds made avail-
able through sponorships.c-

the parents of each playing
member. The league in Be-
llaire is a city arrair; and
parents are encouraged to
participate In the league's
many volunteer committees
and its board of directores.

March 30 at the Bellaire
Park from 2 p.m. til 4 p.m.
The purpose of the rally is
to get the citizens of Bel-
laire out to hear the dan-
didates for city offices.
The rally is being spon-
sored by the Bellaire E-
lection Action Meeting (BE
A), a non-partisan group.
Organizing the rally are Ly-
nn McBee, Nellie Gallagher,
Dorothy Lockwood, Moppy
Gay and Bill Rouse. They
are working to pull in all
Bellaire civic and youth gr-
oups to help support the ra-
lly.

League Meet, the girls sw-
am to their second state
championship in two years.
The 200-yard Medley of
Vicki Brown, Mona Schweppe
Beth Gibson and Karen Pa-
ge place third with a 1:59.9.
All-American Swimmer Li-
sa Pena won a third place
In the 200-yard freestyle a-
nd was victorious in the
500-yard winning by over 12
seconds with 5:10.32.
Lisa also stroked to a th-
ird place in the 100 yard
butterfly, behind the second
place winner by only .353
