LAKE-The last day to vote
in the November General
Election is Tuesday, Nov. 6.
Though many will go to the
polls to vote for the next
U.S. president, there are
many important local races,
as well.
With the main draw be-
ing the U.S. Presidential
election with seven write-
in candidates, there are
also contests for sheriff,
commissioner, tax asses-
sor, and constable.
In Henderson
County, incumbent Ray
Nutt (R) and Bill Burton
(D), both ran opposed in
the primary, will face
each other in the race for
Henderson County Sher-
iff
For Precinct 1 Com-
missioner, Scotty Thomas
(R) fo ught off a large field
of challengers in the prima-
ries to face David McGlaun
(D), who ran unopposed.
Now they face each other
for the right to replace the
retiring Joe Hall.
Incumbent Milburn
Chaney (R) will take on
Bryan Barker (D) in the tax
assessor’s race.
In the Precinct 5 Con-
stable race, incumbent
Brad Miers (R) faces Rick
Simmons (D).
In the District 5 Con-
gressional race, incumbent
Jeb Hensarling (R) will face
Henderson County resident
Linda Mrosko (D).
Unopposed
Those who ran unop-
posed include: County At-
torney Clint Davis, District
Attorney Scott McKee,
Precinct 4 Constable Rich-
ard Stewart, 3rd Judicial
District Judge Mark A.
Calhoun, and 392nd Dis-
trict Judge Carter Tarrance.
Those who won in the
primaries, but face no op-
position in the General Elec-
tion include: District 4 State

LAKE-In unannounced
appearances last week,
The Texas Commission
on Jail Standards visited
the jails of Kaufman and
Henderson counties for
an inspection.
Both jail facilities
were found to be in to-
tal compliance with the
state’s minimum jail
standards.
The two-day inspec-
tion gave officials a view
of all operations, includ-
ing intake and release,
staffing, safety, jail
cleanliness and mainte-
nance and security op-
erations.
“The Certificate of
Compliance demon-
strates the outstanding
leadership and the dili-
gent work of our staff in
complying with minimum

Family Resource Center moves
to bigger site in Seven Points

SEVEN POINTS-The
Family Resource Center of
Seven Points has moved to
a new and larger location
at 206 N. Seven Points
Blvd.
The center simply out-
grew the former Gibson’s
Shopping Center facility
and is now able to offer
more than before, includ-
ing high-quality furniture
and a year-round Christ-
mas store.
Family Resource Cen-
ter manager Jerry F errell
says lower prices have
been introduced and cus-
tomers will be surprised
at the quality of the
clothing sold in the new
store. “If we won’t wear
it, we won’t sell it,” is
their motto.
Revenues generated
by the centers in Seven
Points and Gun Barrel
City go directly to those
less fomtunate in our com-
munities.
The Family Resource
Center helps citizens pay
utility bills, buy prescrip-
tion medication and medi-
cal supplies. The center
also supplies clothing,
food and back-to-school
supplies as well as assists

Mabank features a quilt giveaway at 2 p.m.
Tuesday, Nov. 6. following a tasty stew
luncheon as part of their annual fall festival.
The quilt is handmade by church members

A Fall Festival pre-sale will be held from 4 - 6
p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, and continues from 9
a.m. to 4 p.m. the next day.
