Annie T. Baethe Celebrates 96th Birthday
Sister Annie Theresa Baethe, a
longtime member of SPJST Lodge
Pokrok Houston No. 88 was honored
during the August 12, 1985 lodge
meeting. During a speciál ceremony,
she was presented with a check for the
full amount of her life insurance
čerti ficate by Supreme Lodge
Secretary/Treasurer Leonard Mikeska
and District V Director Jerry
Procházka. Director Procházka also
presented her with a Certificate of
Recognition which grants her íifetime
membership in the SPJST.
The festive occasion was attended by
a host of friends, relatives, and Lodge
88 members. A beautiful decorated
cake and reifeshmer.ts were provided
by the lodge and lodge members and
enjoyed by all.
Annie Baethe born July 28, 1889
was one of 7 children born to Thomas
and Katherine Řepka. She grew up on
a farm and went through the 6th or 7th
grade.
January 8, 1910, she married
Herman Baethe. They had 5 children,
two are now deceased. Thomas
Lincoln died in infancy and Regina
Muesse died July 18, 1980, Evelyn
Mikoláš and J.D. Baethe reside in
Houston and Gladys Craven in Dallas.
She also has 4 grandchildren: Deborah
Hays and Gary Craven who reside in
Dallas and Scott Baethe and Judy
Baethe who reside in Houston. One
great - granddaughter, Melissa Baethe,
also li ves in Houston. Almost all of the
family are members of SPJST Lodge
No. 88.
Mr. and Mrs. Baethe lived on a farm
and operated a grocery store in Waller
County until January 1928. They then
moved to Needville and were in the
grocery retail business for some ten
:years. In August of 1938, they moved
to Houston where Mr. Baethe was ín
the constractíon business. Both were
active members of Lodge 88 and Mr.
Baethe was a saies representative for
Lodge 88 for many years, until his
health failed. He passed away May 6,
1978.
Mrs. Baethe is a charter member of
the Birthday Club Sisters and attended
activities until the past few months,
but is still interested in hearing the
news and eagerly awaits each issue of
the Vestnik so that her daughter,
Evelyn, can read the news to her. She
underwent eye surgery in May of this
year and enjoyed much improvemeni
in her vision but still has difficulty with
the řine prim. She was hospitalized in
July with pneumonia and enjoyed a
speedy recovery and all of her family
are thankful she is able to attend this
meeting. Many of her friends and
neighbors affectionately call her Aunt
Annie or Grandma Baethe.
All of her children and
grandchildren ,were present to
celebrate her birthday July 28th and
many visitors dropped in for several
days before and after to wish Grandma
Baethe “Happy 96th Birthday.”
Appreciation is extended to Lodge
88 President Jerry Ermis and Lodge 88
Board member Louis Hanuš for
planning the ceremony and arranging
for a videotape of the ceremony, to
first Více President Clara Brož and
%Vnnie Vala for their part in handling
the cake and refreshments, and to
everyone else who had a part in
preparing for the festivities.
The SPJST Supreme Lodge and the
members of Lodge 88 extend
congratulations and best wishes to
Sister Baethé and wish her well.

a Íifetime membership certificate.
