To Study Water Purification
Dr. J K <i. Silvey, professor of
biology and chairman of the di-
vision of sciences, has been awarded
a grant of 17776 from the National
Institute of Health for research
in netinomyrete growth in water
supplies
!>r Stivey has had several other
grants on this same work Accord
ing to the NT prafessoi, the re-
search. when completed, should be
of aid in predicting whether cer-
tain planned reaervoirs would have
water with tastes and odors.
Also, the research should aid in
showing whe her certain streams
should or should not be uaed for
water supplies and how they should
in- treated if they are used
"The research will also inves-
tigate methods of purifying wa-
ter,” Dt Silvey stated
The research will embrace the
Midwest and Southwest sections
of the I'nited States Water sam-
ples from many representative
cities will be studies! Silvey. in
the past, has done research work
on water supplies of Dallas, Waco.
Breckenridge, Ranger, fialveston,
Denton, and Oklahoma City.
According to Silvey. the study
if a relatively new field and North
Texas it one of only a few col-
leges in the nation doing the re-
search
ling and filing by the librarian
Student assistants now have
more time to shelve hook* and re-
issue them, Dr Sampley notes
The plan has proved highly sur-
cesaful (nth in the saving of time
and in the greater efficiency by
which the second largest college
library in the state is operated
A similar card system is ia use
by the registrar’s office in re-
porting student grades ft uses
i a different technique, according to
Dr. Alex Dickie, registrar, and has
been in partial uae for the past
year
The summer term was the first
occasion for students to use grade
cards ss admission slips to their
classes When the card is handed
out in the registration line, it ia
duly punched at the feea desk,
