Mr. and Mrs. Walter Warren
Welch announced the engagement
of their daughter, Elouise, to Mr.
Vernon A. Mangold, son of Mrs.
Alex Mangold and the late Mr.
Mangold of this city. The couple
plan a February wedding in St.
Stanislaus Catholic Church.
TWO KERRVILLE WOMEN DIE
IN SPORTS CAR-TRUCK
SMASHUP
Two young women died as the
result of injuries suffered in a
car-pickup accident on Farm Road
689 late Tuesday morning.
The dead are Mrs. Barbara Ann
Duckworth Paine, 21, of Route 1,
Box 99C, Oak Park, and Mrs.
Leslie Geraldine Lackey Wilson,
18, Camp Verde.
Mrs. Paine died at 2:10 p.m.,
Tuesday and Mrs. Wilson died
about 6 a.m,, Wednesday. Both
died in a Kerrville hospital.
The Texas Highway Patrol said
a collision occurred at about 11
a.m., Tuesday at a point 7% miles

south of Kerrville on Farm Road
689 between a Sprite driven by
Mrs. Paine and a 1955 Ford pick-
up driven by Walter Henry Cau-
sey of Bandera.
Mrs. Wilson was a passenger
in the Paine car and Willis Ellis,
74, of Bandera, an uncle of Cau-
sey, was a passenger in the pickup.
The THP said the Paine auto
was going north on FM 689 when
it came to a left hand curve and
went out of control due to wet
pavement. The auto then broad
skidded into the path of the pickup.
Causey attempted to avoid hitting
the Sprite, but the pickup’s brakes
locked, the THP said.
The two women suffered fatal
injuries and Willis suffered minor
injuries including a cut on his
head. Mrs. Paine and Mrs. Wil-
son were taken to Sid Peterson
Hospital by Smith ambulance.
The two young women were em-
ployees at the Dairy Mart drive-ins
here. Mrs. Paine had worked at
the drive-in on the Junction High-
way for a year and Mrs. Wilson
had worked at the drive-in on
Water St.
Mrs. Paine was born in Dallas
February 4, 1941.
She is survived by a daughter,
Irene Elaine Paine; her mother,
Mrs. Claudia Medrano; her fath-
er, R. B. Duckworth; a sister, Mrs.
Vernon Moore; three brothers,
Emmit, Ronald and Donald Duck-
worth, all of Kerrville; two grand-
mothers, Mrs. Ida Kenley, Kerr-
ville, and Mrs. Bennie Duckworth,
Fort Worth.
Mr. Ellis was treated for his
injuries and released Wednesday.
He is at home and doing fine.

H. L. Bruce, of the famous
Bruce Ranch, has been very ill
at his home here this past week.
HERBERT HAAS IN HOSPITAL
Herbert Haas was admitted to
the Sid Peterson Hospital in Kerr-
ville on Tuesday, January 29, 1968.

Tax Assessor-Collector advises
that 1963 Vehicle License plates
will go on sale February 1, 1963,
and that all vehicles must be
registered before April 1.
Since it is required that regis-
tration receipts be made up from
your Certificate of Title, take your
Certificate of Title for each ve-
hicle with you when purchasing
your 1963 plates.
If you have not yet rendered
your property for 1963, it would
be a good time to do it when pur-
chasing your new plates.
The telephone number of the
County Tax Office has been
changed to SWift 6-3723. Sheriff
Miller’s phone number remains
SWift 6-4411. It is suggested
that these changes be made in
your phone book.
Mr. Zuttermeister expressed his
appreciation for the fine response
to the “tax reminders” sent out
by his office recently.

SPEAKER FOR SWEETHEART
BANQUET
Plans are complete now for the
Fine Arts banquet slated for
Tuesday evening, February 6,
1963, at Dixie Dude Ranch. The
evening will start off with a
social hour at 6:30 followed by
the Sweetheart banquet at 7:30.
Lt. Col. Elmo Reeves, Retired,
will be the guest speaker for the
banquet and tell of “Custer’s Last
Stand,” as he is an authority on
one of the United States’ most
famous generals.
Mrs. Travis McNair, program
leader, will present music during
the evening.
Mrs. W. P. Jordan is hostess
chairman and her committee in-
cludes Mesdames Ashley Rugh, E.
M. Pue, Pat Freeman, Travis Mc-
Nair, James Herriott, G. T. San-

MRS. JACK MIHOK'S MOTHER
DIED MONDAY
We extend sincere sympathy to
Mrs. Jack Mihok at the death of
her beloved mother, Mrs. Hattie
Glass, of Houston, who passed
away Monday, January 28, 1963,
at the age of 84 years.
Mrs. Mihok left Tuesday to at-
tend funeral services which were
held in the Jack Carswell Fun-
eral Home.
Mrs. Class will be remembered
here very kindly, as she visited
Mr. and Mrs. Mihok a number of
times. She is survived by thrie
daughters, Mrs. Jack Mihok <if
Bandera, Mrs. Blank Fitzgerald
of Houston and Mrs. Mabel
Mustain of Laughton, Oklahoma;
three sons, C. A. Glass of Pawnee,
Oklahoma, Merville Glass of Hous-
ton, Hall E. Glass of Detroit,
Michigan.
JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES WILL
DEDICATE THEIR NEW HOUSE
Open house will be held at the
new church building of the local
congregation of Jehovah’s Wit-
nesses on Sunday from 1:30 to
6:00 p.m., and visitors are most
cordially invited.
The dedication of the new house
of worship will be held at 7:30
p.m., with Mr. R. Mauer of Se-
guin, Mr. V. James and Circuit
Minister C. Newcomb of Australia,
presenting the program which in-
cludes the welcome to the dedi-
cation, “The New World Society;”
history of local congregation and
highlights of construction; “Dedi-
cated to Jehovah’s Service;’’ Song
and Prayer; Instruction Talk by
V. James; First Student Talk, T.
Faulkner; Third Student Talk by
B. Monier; Fourth Student Talk,
M. James; and song.
The program at 8:15 will feature
the Congregation Service Meeting
with V. James giving the Daily
Text and Comments and D. Faulk-
ner giving “Pioneering and Ex-
pression of Love.”

BANDERA PUBLIC
LIBRARY IS BADLY
IN NEED OF FUNDS
The Bandera Public Library is
badly in need of operational funds,
so a number of Friends of the
Library gathered in the library
Tuesday to make plans for a
money raising project.
Construction of
Highway 689 to
Start Monday
A morning coffee and a silver
tea will be held in the library room
on Tuesday, February 12. The
morning coffee has been set for
9:30 to 11:00. The silver tea
will be the same day from 4 to
6:30 p.m.
Everyone is cordially invited to
attend either or both of these
parties. Come and make a much
needed donation to the library.
Any size donation, large or small,
will be gratefully received.
If you have never visited the
library this will be a good time.
It is a most attractive place.
Many people have given valuable
books and the shelves are all
nearly filled, but books won’t pay
the light bill, the water bill, or
the librarian’s salary.
So do come!
At Tuesday’s planning meeting
were Mrs. A. B. Byrne, who pre-
sided, Mrs. D. W. Hicks, and Mrs.
Gregg Mueller, vice-presidents of
the Friends of the Library, Mrs.
A. J. Flowers, Mrs. Felix Brandt
and Mrs. John Saul.
Tht Allen Keller Company and
the Keller Paving Company of
Fredericksburg, Texas, has been
awarded by the Texas State High-
way Commission, the contract to
construct 13.3 miles of highway
on Highway 689. The stretch of
BOB WOOLLARD RITES
PENDING
As we go to press word comes
of the death of Bob Woollard who
passed away in the Legion Hos-
pital in Kerrville following an
extended illness. Funeral serv-
ices are pending and we will give
a full report of his death next
week.
BURGLARS BREAK INTO
STOKES I.G.A.
Burglars broke into Stokes IGA
Store in Medina Tuesday night
according to Sheriff R. B. Miller,
and got away with about 45 pounds
of beef, some chickens, $18.00 in
cash and an undetermined amount
of other items. Sheriff Miller is
investigating the robbery.
Junior Livestock
Show Successful
Teodora Soto showed the Champion Angus Calf of the show.
The Twenty-Seventh Annual
Junior Livestock Show held at
the Medina Show Barns last week-
end was a most successful event
with an array of fine livestock,
prepared for the show by Ban-
dera County youth.
The following trophies and
awards were presented: Bandera
County Ranchmen and Farmers
Association award for Champion
Fine Wool Fat Lamb went to
Frances Faris. Reserve Champion
Wine Wool Lamb award presented
by Bill and Joe Short went to
Shirley Pember.
Bonnie Pember received the
award for her Champion Fine
Wool-Medium Wool Cross Fat
Lamb, presented by Raymond
Hicks.
Joan Ann Fisher received the
Reserve Champion Fine Wool-

MADRONA GARDEN CLUB
WILL HAVE MEXICAN
DINNER
The Bandera Madrona Garden
Club will hold it’s annual Mexican
dinner and bake sale in the Ban-
dera Library Auditorium across
from the Bandera Court House
on Saturday (tomorrow), Febru-
ary 2, starting at 11:30. Delicious
homemade Mexican foods, cakes,
pies, coffee, will be served. Pro-
ceeds from the sale will go to-
wards the Club’s various projects.

KILLS MEXICAN EAGLES
Frank Montague Jr., reported
Monday that he had killed two
large Mexican eagles at the main
ranch house corrals. The huge
birds had been killing his young
lambs and when they were ex-
amined their crops were filled
with wool and flesh from the
lambs. The eagles have been
doing a large amount of damage
on the Montague Ranch. This is
the third one reported to have
been killed there.

LOCAL GIRL WILL WED
Mr. and Mrs. Olan Buck of
Bandera have announced the en-
gagement and approaching mar-
riage of their daughter, Evelyn
Buck, to Ronnie Williams, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Milton Williams of
Goliad. The wedding will be
solemnized on February 9 at the
First Methodist Church in Goliad.
The bride-elect is a graduate of
Bandera High School, S.W.T.S.C.
in San Marcos, and currently em-
ployed by A & M College Exten-
sion Service. The prospective
bridegroom is a graduate of Goliad
High School, served in the U. S.
Navy, and presently employed with
Magcobar Inc., in Goliad.
HENRY ADAMS WILL HANDLE
STOCK SHOW PARADE
ENTRIES
Henry Adams, local Chevrolet
dealer, announced today, that he
has been chosen to handle Ban-
dera entries in the 1963 San An-
tonio Stock Show parade, to be
held in San Antonio on the open-
ing day of the show.
The ranches, dude ranches, busi-
ness firms and individuals who
would like to enter the big Stock
Show parade in San Antonio are
urged to get in touch with Mr.
Adams.
This is fine publicity for Ban-
dera so hurry and let Mr. Adams
