Presidential Interference.
Reports!rom Washington indicate
that the de tacto President is greatly*
concerned about the organization oi
the noxt House ol Representatives.
Ho is disturbed in mind and unhap-
py ,touchi»g tho posibilitios involved
in that organization, not that he fears
any trouble about his scat, but be-
cause of tho unpleasant attitude he
will bo plucod in, both Houses being
undor .Democratic control.
Ho has no cause for anguish ol
soal with regard to his occupancy
of tho White House, for he wcM
lcnows tho Domocrats are punishing
him with a sort of refined cruelty in
leaving him sevorely alone to survey
the ruin and wreck of his party,
while ho,helpless and impotent, can-
not render thorn the least possible
assistance. Ilo would doubtless be
glad now to accept tho crown ol
political martyrdom and luivo him-
self canonized as one of tho sa'nts,
who died that tho party might in bis
death awake to glory again, but
the Democrats propose to let him
serve out his term, and anticipate
that future which is rosorved lor all
who sacrifico honor, juuico and
principle lor selfish ends.
Steering betwcot party opposition
oil the ©ne hand and absolute indil-
forcnco on tho oilier, ho finds
tho frail bulk in which his claims
to tho fuluro respect ol his
countrymen tiro launched,, in great
danger ol being dashed to pieces
upon tho reeks and shoals which
will await bis administration in the j
second half of it. With no devoted
supporters in either House and
none outsido to slice the dangers
and burdens of the conflict, ho pre-
sent* the pitiful spectacle of a Pres-
ident without a party and a politi-
cian without friends.
In Ibis extremity he resorts to an
expedient which is lull of danger,
abounding in hazardous 'risks,
One hundred bales of cotton were
shipped yesterday front Denison,
Texas, over tho M. K. &T. railroad.
They will reach here this evening.
This is, wo believe, tho largest ship-
ment over mado in one day, of cot-
ton I com that point.—Sedalia Dem-
erat.
The Democrat should have said
ears instead of hales, and they would
have been right. Business is count-
ed very dull whoa there are less
Ilian six hundred bales shipped from
this station.
