Notes

Martha moved from Jackson County, Alabama to the Murphy, Texas area in 1879. She moved to the area with her husband, Christopher Columbus Brownfield, and her brother, Milton Meredith Matlock. Milton, who lived in Murphy, Texas, kept this picture of his sister. The Brownfield family has a second original of this portrait and the bible shown in the picture, which have both been passed down to one of Martha's 3x great grandsons.
