NEWS OF NOTE AND CONGRATULATIONS —
When Temple Shalom held their first election of officers for the
Brotherhood on February 18, elected for the first three months were:
Jerry Bemel, president; Jin Hogue, vice president; Ken Goldstein, stc’y.;
Ken Bobkoff, treasurer; Board members: Dr. Edward Kent, Robert Coit,
Dr. A1 Dirsaeli, Edward Fox, Gerald Wolff, and Nat Ekelman. Rabbi
Herschel Jaffe heads the congregation.
There will be two Bar Mitzvah at Temple Emanu-El on March 2.
Louis Tobian II, will be Bar Mitzvah in the morning with his grand-
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Tobian of Dallas and Mrs. G. Schepps of
Houston in attendance. Louis and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Milton
Tobian, 9612 Rockbrook, will receive friends and relatives after the ser-
vices in Linz Hall. The same afternoon at 4:30, Barry Herbert, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Williard Herbert, will celebrate a similar simcah. Sweets
will be served after services at the Temple. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert and
his grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. Charles Edelstein of Cleveland, will be
hosts for an Open House, that evening at the family home, 3942 Davilla.

Carol Glick, daughter of Mrs.
Louis Glick, has just been elected
vice-president of her sorority, Delta
Phi Epsilon, at the University of
Texas. An anniversary and birth-
day celebration for Messers and
Mesdames, Jerry Fliescher, David
Shrem and Sheldon Kimmelman
in each family, was the occasion to
celebrate with dinner at La Ronda
Restaurant. Mr. and Mrs. Mike
Wycoff are proud of son Stuart,
who made the Dean’s List at Brown
University, and of daughter, Karen,
whose star is rising on the local
threarical scene. •
Marilyn Carol Mesh, bride-elect
of Michael Louis Saffer and daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mesh,
7430 Yamini celebrated her twen-
tieth birthday in Jacksonville,
Florida where she was honored
with a party by her fiance’s par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. David Safer.
While there, Mr. and Mrs. A1 Wolf-
son and Mr. and Mrs. Stanley
Greenfield sister and brothers-in-
law of the future groom honored
her with a Luau at the Greenfield
home in Jacksonville, Aunts, Mes-
dames Pearl Kramer, Pearl Safer,
Ida Goldberg, Doll Davis and Mary
Safer, hosted a His and Her Show-
er with a brunch at the Beauclere
Country Club in Jacksonville. The
couple plan a June 16 wedding at
Shearith Israel in Dallas.
The engagement of Miss Donna
Linda Schneider and Richard Jose-
ph Birnholz, has been announced by
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sol
Schneider, 6416 Orchid Lane. The
bride-to-be is a senior at Washing-
ton University in St. Louis. Mr.
Birnholz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam
H. Birnholz, 2946 Carrizo Lane, is
doing graduate work at Hebrew
Union College in New York. A De-
cember 22 wedding at Temple
Emanu-El is planned.
COMINGS, GOINGS and GUESTS
Mr. and Mrs Marty Rosenfield
have returned from a pleasant few
days in Las Vegas. Recent vacation-
ers Mr. and Mrs. Leon Goldstein
enjoyed the sun in Acapulco. Mr.
and Mrs. Joseph Lautin are happily
hosting her mother, Mrs. Rose M.
Juster of Minneapolis. Dr. and Mrs.
Oscar Grablowsky of New Orleans,
stopped in Dallas for a visit with
her folks, Mr. and Mrs. Louis
Weitzman, enroute home from Las
Vegas. Dr. Grablowsky is head
surgeon at Charity Hospital in New
Orleans. Mrs. Grablowsky serves as
a medical technologist there.
Mr. and Mrs. R. I. Rogoff are
eagerly awaiting a visit from their
daughters, Mrs. Aaron Kreisler
and baby from Cleveland who will
be joined later by Dr. Kreisler. Dr.
and Mrs. Melvin Hoffman of Gal-
veston, will also visit the Rogoffs
during the month.
Mrs. Barney Horvich left last
week for Denver to greet her new
grandson, Eric Michael Cohen, who
was born February 15, to Dr. and
Mrs. Richard Cohen. Mr. and Mrs.
Horvich, Dallas and Dr. and Mrs.
Raymond Cohen of Houston are the
proud grandparents. Great-grand-
parents are Harry Gremm of Dallas
and Mrs. R. Cohen of Houston.

EUGENE STEIN, 16, of Hill-

crest High School, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Jack Stein, was first
place winner in the recent Dal-
las County Symphonic Festival.
The prize consisted of a $200
scholarship and a concert ap-
pearance with the Dallas Sym-
phony Orchestra on March 8, at
McFarlin Auditorium. Eugene
will play the Mendelsohn Violin
Concerto in E Minor. He plans
to return to the National Music
Camp at Interlochen, Michigan,
this summer for more intensive
studies.
LEON MORRISON
Leon Morrison, son of Dr. and
Mrs. Donald D. Morrison, 6206
Lavendale, has been named to
the Dean's list, his first semes-
ter at Menlo College, School of
Business Administration. An
added distinction in his academ-
ic achievement of first place in
the Fershman Class, and his
recent election as president of
the Freshman Class.
JAMES ADOLF ISRAEL, a
German surgeon who died in
1926, was responsible for impor-
tant developments in internal
surgery, especially of the kid-
neys.

In My Father's Court7 For Rishona
“The Rishona Chapter of Pioneer
Women will hold a luncheon meet-
ing this Wednesday, March 6, 11:30
a.m. at the Metropolitan Federal
Savings and Loan Association,
11611 Preston Rd.
Rabbi Isadore Garsek will give a
review on Isaac Bashevis Singer’s
book, “In My Father’s Court.” Mr.
Singer is a world acclaimed author
who is considered one of the really
great writers of -our time.
Rabbi Garsek is the spiritual
leader for Congregation Ahavath
Shalom in Fort Worth and is one
of the most-sought-after book re-
viewers in the Dallas-Fort Worth
area. He was graduated from Lewis
Institute and. The Hebrew Theolog-
ical College, both in Chicago, and
also received his doctorate from The
Hebrew Theological College. He was
B’nai B’rith Jewish Man of the
Year in 1958 and wasg awarded a
Brotherhood citation by the Nation-
al Conference of Christians and
Jews in 1961. Rabbi Garsek has re-
cently been apointed to the newly
created Community Relations Com-
mission. .
The charge of $1.00 per person
is payable at the door. Mrs. Sam

The Kadima Chapter of Pioneer
Women will hold a luncheon meet-
ing, Thursday, March 7, 11:30 a.m.,
at the Exchange Bank, Forest Lane
and Marsh.
An original playet, “Women of all
Seasoning,” written and directed
by Betty Norman, will be presented.
The cast includes Mines. Penny
Weinberger, Helga Brown, Sophie
Adelstein, Miriam Ring, Ethel Nor-
man, Esther Leventhal, Sylvia Kat-
