Mr. Hurd:
We wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for spending time with us at the East
Sweden Cemetery on Labor bay morning. You were most gracious in taking the time to show
us the gravesites and tell us some things about Jackie's family. She was absolutely
enthralled with your stories of her grandfather, her aunt and uncle, and other
Engdahl/Brady reminisces you shared with her.
Once we had finished up at the cemetery, we ventured over to the church and found it
unlocked. Once we entered Jackie saw the piano that she used to play at Christmas time
for the gatherings where the children performed. She sat down and played some of those
old songs and you should have seen the look on her face, it was just priceless.
We did take a number of photos to complement the Engdahl/Hurd narrative we are putting
together and think we shall return later in the fall to add more of East Sweden. We hope
to be able to find what remains of the old Oscar Engdahl house in East Sweden and get
some photos. We've been very fortunate to meet people like you who can relate to the
family and are so very kind to share their knowledge.
We thought you might like to have some of the photos that we took along with some we've
gleaned from some of the family. We hope that you can enjoy them.
Again, thank you so much for taking the time to show us around and share your stories of
the family. We really appreciate it and wish you well.
With best wishes,Ray Thornton
