Pari-Mutuel Wagering Act.
In local balloting Timpson
North and South saw a
moderate turnout. Timp-
son North voted 74 for
and 178 against on the
State Board of Education,
126 for and 151 against
for the statewide Racing
Act and 11? for and 143
against in the local op-
tion Pari-mutuel Act.
Timpson South bad 295
voters turnout voting, 79
for and 133 against on
the Education measure,
91 for and 189 against in
the Statewide Pari-mutuel
Wagering and 80 for and
174 against on the local
option.
Timpson voters went along
with the remainder . of
Shelby County in saying
no to an appointed Board
of Education and Para-
mutual wagering. In tha
county 942 voted for
while 3047 voted against
the appointed board: 1320
for and 2062 against in
the statewide wagering
end 1238 for and 2018
against on tha local
option.
Although Shelby County
voted against pari -mutual
wagering, the State of
Texas as a whole voted
58% in favor of allowing
the wagering to occur in
those counties who also
passed on the local op-
tion of pari-mutuel wag-
ering.
Tha state of Texas and
Shelby County did agree
however not to let tha
Governor appoint ’ tha
State Soaro of Education
but to have an elected
Board, with equal rep-
resentation.

After an intensive inves-
tigation by both the Shel-
by and Nacogdoches
County Sheriffs Depart-
ment of rtcent residential
burglaries, two adults
were arrested Friday at a
Sen Augustine motel.
Arrested were a white
male, Kenneth Wayne
Harris of Garrison, and a
white female, Pam Yar-
brough of the Stockman
Community.
Approximately $30,000 in
guns have been recovered
end returned to owners,
with additional property,
including more guns,
jewelry end rare coins,
being recovered daily as
the investigation continues.
The investigation spear-
headed by Constables
Darrel Lunsford and
C.W. Milford.
At press time Harris
re-mains in custody in
the Nacogdoches county
fail under a $50,000
bond.
