Mayor Raporta 'City Doing Woir
The Timpson City Council met #t 5:00 Fabrusry 17.
The Council awarded bids fof transformers and metering for the Timpson High School pro-
ject, which is getting underway at the school. Stuart C. Irby Company of Shreveport, Louisiana
was awarded the Old for nine transformers reeded in the school project. A.M.I. Service of Tyler
was accepted as the metering service by the city.
Mrs. Nell Crockett contected the Council about a very high water bill she received. It a
water meter shows that water went through the meter, then the customer Is charged. Mrs. Cro-
ckett's meter showed that water went through on her side.
Mayor Donald Amos and Councilman Aasberry talked with Mrs. Crockett about the bill. A
leak was found close to the meter, inside the box, but on Mrs. Crockett's iine.Two city employ-
ees repaired the leak.
There it a problem at the school with trucks travelling the wrong way down the one-way
street. Constable Milford said, "The street at the school is one-way to everyone. The trucks wifi
be fined for going the wrong way."
The mayor reported that the city ia doing well. A manhole was repaired on the Tennessee
Road. There are still streets to be repaired.
Mayor Amos would like to have the streets upgraded. Loaded trucks travelling on city
streets are causing the streets and culverts to be broken down. These trucks should not be
travelling on the residential streets, but should drive on the main roads and highways.
Installing new utility poles, taking down the Old ones, and restoring the power lines may
cause the electricity tc be off for a while In the area around the school. The city is trying to
do this work on the weekends sines the school cannot be without power during the week.
Councilman Bradley Allen suggested that the Council check into liability ineuraoce for the
city.
The City Council decided to purchase 300 feet of new fire hose for the Timpson Fire De-
partment to replace hose that was burned.
A Chamber of Commerce request for an ordinance prohibiting permanent mobile homes In
the downtown area, from Railroad Avenue to South 2nd Street and Jacob tc 6remood, was tabled
until the next City Council meeting when Chamber President Don Burrows can attend.
In regular city business, tha financial report was approved and paying the monthly bills was
approved.

The Timpson News has a new home! We have purchased the Automatic Gas Company
Building or Bramond Street in Timpson. Our telephone is supposed to be Installed Thursdey.

City And School Candidates
Candidates for the city election who have filad are incumbents Billy Halley, Ollia Ray
Barr, and others who have filed are Randy Graves and Gerald Mackey. The deadline was 5PM
Wednesday, February 18, 1887.
Louis Hill is the only School Boerd candidate at this time. The define to file for a place
on tha school ballot it March 4, midnight.
