Timpson FFA Showteam wins big at State Fair
By: Greg Tucker-AST
Timpson FFA took the
South Texas State Fair by
storm this weekend, literally.
The showteam set out Thurs-
day morning headed to Beau-
mont down Highway 69N to
find parts of southeast Texas
completely flooded.
Lumberton and Kountze just
north of Beaumont had re-
ceived 12-18 inches of rain in
a three day period and was
under water. One home in
Lumberton which was already
on stilts had a bass boat tied
to the front porch loading out
personal items. All of the
creeks and rivers were out of
their banks and several places
along 69 had water on the
road. Then to top things off,
an eighteen wheeler tanker
truck overturned on I-10 and
had traffic shut down for sev-
eral miles on Friday evening.
With all the drama, our team
did really well bringing home
several banners and premium
money. Ryan McDonald
placed 3rd with his Beefmaster
heifer, Chaylon Mackey won
Grand and Reserve Champion
Santa Gertrudis and was se-
lected as Reserve American
Division. Macy Nix won Re-
serve Champion Shorthorn
and Reserve English Division.
James Wolfe won Grand
Champion Charolais and sis-
ter Elizabeth won Reserve
Champion Limousin. These
students brought home $240
in cash premiums from the
show. After the show on Fri-
day, the team went to a CBR
Bull Bash that night and the
boys talked with and got the
autograph of Tuff Hedeman-
World Champion Bull Rider
and president of the CBR. The
trip was a lot of fun and the
showteam had another good
show. Showteam member.
Olivia Samford traveled this serve Champion Red Angus won first place with her
weekend to Denison, Texas to honors in Ring A and Grand Limousin heifer. Congratula-
show her heifers receiving Re- Champion in Ring B. She also tions to all these exhibitors.

Tenaha is no different from
any other town and it had its
first break-in type robbery in
several months as HSI was
broken into on October 6. In
this particular robbery, the
thieves broke through a front
window in the main office
area. While in this room they
stole two lap top computers
and a wall clock. They also
stole a Compac PC computer
and a ditital camera from the
business. The thieves or thief
left finger prints all through
out the building and the law
enforcement officer was able
to get fingerprints off several
items in the office. They went
into the back of the building
and stole two grinders and got
a drill, but left it by the win-
dow they used to get into the
building. In the concession
room, they took a microwave
and toaster oven. From an-
other office, they took a Dell
lap top computer. They also
stole the cash box from the
main office, but were unable
to break into the cash boxes
on the drink machines.
This break-in was discov-
ered on Saturday morning
when an employee came to
work. Linda Holley stated that
“they didn’t steal from HSI,
they stole from God!” Many of
the items on the computer were
church related materials that
Linda and Willie had saved.
They are offering a $1000.00
reward for the RETURN of the
materials stolen.
People in Tenaha/Timpson
be sure and have all your tools,
lawn equuipment, chain saws,
etc. secured in good places.
You may even need to have
some type of security light in
the area. Our law enforcement
agencies have been doing great
work in apprehending crooks
in this area. We can all pray
that they will find who broke
into HSI in Tenaha.
