It is a very short
time until we cel-
ebrate Thanksgiv-
ing. I know I have a
lot to be thankful for.
But there are those in
and around our com-
munity that are not as
fortunate as some of
us. There are many that will spend this
special time by themselves. Thanks-
giving and Christmas time is the time
of the year when the suicide rate is
highest.
My family and I will not have to do
without during the holidays, we are
very blessed. I will make it a point to
reach out to someone that would oth-
erwise spend that time alone. What
about you?

All-time record year of city
sale tax revenue assured
If the city of Palacios receives
$2,338 and some change as its
rebate in December, that will
produce a record calendar year
of revenue from its city .
The city’s November rebate
received last week from the
tax-collecting State Comptrol-
ler’s Office totaled $58,984,
which was $61 more than that
received in November 2011.
In the first 11 months of the
year the city has now received
$605,568. The total for all
of calendar year 2011 was a
record $607,906.
Although six of the 13 area
cities, composed of all cities of

and Wharton counties, plus
West Columbia and Sweeny
in Brazoria County, received
less rebates this month than
a year ago, all but the two
smallest— Point Comfort and
LaWard— are running ahead
in year-to-date totals.
Edna joined the ranks of the
million-dollar sales tax rev-
enue cities for the first time.
Statewide, State Comptrol-
ler Susan Combs reported the
total rebate to Texas cities this
month was over $404.4-mil-
lion, an increase of 4.1 % over
last November. The rebates
this month were for sales made
in September and by quarterly
filers.

difference in parenthesis; year-
to-date, year ago, percent of
