WEATHER
Today’s high will be
around 71 with a 30 per-
cent chance of scattered
thunderstorms. Highs will
reach the upper 70s by the

and lows reaching 60.
SERIOUSLY?
Emails from
beyond
MSNBC reports a new
story about messages from
the beyond is burning up
the Internet.
“I was sitting on my
couch, going through my
emails on my phone and it
popped up, ‘sender: Jack
Froese,” Tim Hart of Penn-
sylvania told the BBC.
“I’m Watching” read the
subject line to the email
that went on: “Did you
hear me? I’m at your
house. Clean your [exple-
tive] attic!!!”
Froese, 32, had died
five months earlier of a
heart arrhythmia.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
“Eighty percent of success
is showing up.”
— Woody Allen
TRIVIA FACT
The deserts of Tunisia
housed the original Star
Wars movie sets for the
film’s planet Tatooine.
More than 30 years after
the premier of the first
movie in the series, the
sets are well preserved
and visitors can even stay
in Luke Skywalker’s home.
TODAY IN HISTORY
In an effort to raise funds
to pay off debts and defend
the vast new American ter-
ritories won from the
French in the Seven Years'
War (1756-1763), the
British government passed
the Stamp Act on this day
in 1765. The legislation
levied a direct tax on all
materials printed for com-
mercial and legal use in
the colonies, from newspa-
pers and pamphlets to
playing cards and dice.
VERSE OF THE DAY
“Repent, then, and turn to
God, so that your sins may
be wiped out, that times of
refreshing may come from
the Lord, and that he may
send the Christ, who has
been appointed for you —
even Jesus.”
— Acts 3:19-20

Hashmarks, tweets and
social media are unfamiliar
territory to many parents.
They worry that their chil-
dren are not getting a proper
education if they spend all
their time communicating in
140 characters or less.

Celina resident Dana Racanelli the finer points of using Twitter on her
iPad during a Twitter class this week. The class was held in a computer
lab on the Celina High School campus. Poncio and district Technology
Director Marilyn Chamberlin decided to hold classes for parents and
community members when parents expressed an interest in learning
what their children were doing when they used Twitter. Racanelli

MEETINGS WITH HARVEY,
CITY MANAGER CONTINUE

After meetings among
Carolyn Harvey, Mayor Jim
Lewis, Councilman Wayne
Nabors and City Manager
Mike Foreman over the past
week, the employment status
of the Main Street executive
director is undetermined.
Harvey unexpectedly re-
signed from her job at the
council meeting on March 12,
although she did not use the
word resignation.
“Due to circumstances be-
yond my control, tonight I am
leaving the city,” she said at
the council meeting.
She continued coming to
work the rest of the week.
“As far as I’ve been told,”
Councilman Wayne Nabors
said, “[Harvey and Foreman]
both indicated to me they
saw no reason why they
couldn’t work it out.”
“I got the impression that
they were going to make
some changes and get on
down the road,” Nabors
added. “It was just a bunch of
misunderstandings and hurt

The marble must remain in
motion for at least one minute
and traverse from one place
to another or back to where it
started. That is just one of the
rules that must be observed
for this class project.
This is the twentieth year
that Celina High School sci-
ence teacher has assigned the
building of a “better marble
machine” competition.
The finished class projects
are put on display for the pub-
lic for one evening before the
machines are destroyed. That
is so next year’s physics stu-
dents will not be tempted to
recycle someone’s marble ma-
chine from a prior year.
The marble must go
through a roller coaster wave,
traverse a spiral and trip
levers and pulleys to name
just a few of the things it must

principles of physics. The machines were on display for the evening of March 8 in the CHS cafeteria and then destroyed so classes next year will
have the fun of designing their machines from scratch. Team members not pictured are Sadie Lancaster, Sophie Southwell, Kyler Juergens and
Aubrey Lawlis.

PARENTS SUE TO STOP FRAUDULENT USE OF SON’S, OTHERS’ PHOTOS

prathbiin@starlocaInews.com
Two online dating serv-
ices were using a photo of Lt.
Peter Burks as someone who
was seeking to meet people.
Lt. Burks was a troop
leader in the Second Stryker
Cavalry Regiment. He was
killed on November 14, 2007
when a bomb blew up his ve-
hicle as he returned to base
following a mission in Bagh-
dad. He is also the recipient
of a Bronze Star.
His parents have filed a
lawsuit against online dating
services PlentyofFish.com
and True.com because of
claims that the companies
used a photograph of the sol-
dier killed in action to at-
tract women to the websites.
Lt. Burks’ father is Alan
Burks, a former Celina resi-
dent. He now lives in Dallas.
He lived in Celina for more
than a decade and his
daughter still lives in Celina.
Burks founded Unsung He-
roes to send packages of
snacks, CDs, socks, baby
wipes, toiletries and other
things to soldiers who find it
hard to get these things in a
war zone. Many Celina stu-

dents and residents have
contributed to those boxes
during various drives.
Lt. Burks’ photo is fea-
tured prominently at the Un-
sung Heroes website,
UnsungHeroFund.org.
Last December a friend of
Lt. Burks was viewing Plen-
tyofFish.com when she saw a
photo of Lt. Burks taken only
days before he was killed.
Alan Burks wanted to
know where they got his
son’s picture and why they
used it. He wanted the photo
to be taken down.
“The only way to get these
people to change their be-
havior is through a civil law-
suit,” Burks said. “If
anything comes of this it will
go directly to military chari-
ties to benefit soldiers and
their families. This is not my
money. If they’re penalized it
should not be my gain.”
Burks’ attorney, Rogge
Dunn of Clouse Dunn LLP in
Dallas sent a cease-and-de-
sist letter to
PlentyofFish.com, based in
Vancouver. The company has
since agreed to remove the
ad. There has been no re-
sponse to a similar letter
from True.com based in Dal-
las.
Dunn said the lawsuit will
likely involve a jury trial. He
declined to estimate the size
of the settlement that could
