Work gets under
way on new
church
A new solid masonry and
steel church building, 40 by 74
feet overall, is to be erected on
the site of the old building
which has just been razed by
the members of the Celina
Church of Christ.
Men of the congregation
last week completed the job of
tearing down the old structure
and dirt fill for the new build-
ing is just about completed.
The contractor, Bartlett Con-
struction Company, of Gunter
and Sherman expects to get
started with the actual con-
struction in a few days. About
120 days will see the job com-
pleted, Maynard Atkins said
Wednesday. Asked when the
old building was built, Mr.
Atkins said he didn’t know, but
that deeds to the land were
dated August 24, 1915, and
that the building should have
been erected shortly after that
date.
The accompanying sketch
shows how the architect,
George Christensen of Dallas,
thinks the building will look
upon completion. The material
will be a mingled blend of pink
through buff brick of modular
and Norman brick sizes. “The
Norman brick will be laid in a
stack bond to create a digni-
fied and well-ordered design
and then this is enhanced by
the use of a brick pattern in
the modular brick,” the archi-
tect said.
Several unusual features
will characterize the interior,
which will be designed for ex-
cellent acoustics. The foyer
will be spacious and can be
used to help accommodate an
overflow crows. Restrooms will
be off the foyer. The audito-
rium is dignified and will have
a tracery grille design from
floor to ceiling. This grille work
frames the platform and calls
attention to a well-propor-
tioned baptistry. More grille
work separates the auditorium
from the dressing rooms and
air-conditioning rooms, where
equipment for central heating
and air-conditioning equip-
ment will be located.
Mr. Atkins said the new
building will be located in ap-
proximately the same spot as
the old one, with the main en-
trance on the west. A graveled
parking lot will be situated on
the north of the new building.
“The parking lot might possibly
be paved later on, but not
now,” he said.

had issued plates for 289 pas-
senger cars, 75 commercial
trucks, 30 farm trucks, 32 trail-

of which 607 were passenger
cars.
