A Fond Farewell to Coach Mark Styles and his Family

Coach Mark Styles and
wife, Kathy, are moving to
Floydada, where Mark will be
Floydada’s Head Girls Basketball
and Boys & Girls Cross Country
Coach. His wife Kathy will also
be employed with the school dis-
trict.
Coach Styles had been
with Holliday ISD for 11 years.
He had been the Head Girls Bas-
ketball Coach and had also
coached the Boys & Girls Cross
Country Teams for 11 years. His
wife Kathy was an aide for
Holliday ISD for 2 years and had
served as the Holliday Middle
School for the last 9 years. Coach
Styles has been coaching girls
basketball and cross country for
25 years. He graduated from
Throckmorton High School in
1976 and earned his Bachelor of
Science Degree from Midwestern
State University. His wife Kathy
is a 1976 graduate of Holliday
High School.
Mark and Kathy have 2
sons, Kreg (23) who graduated
from Holliday in 2003. His future
plans are to live in Holliday and
continue working for Willen Elec-
tric Company. Scott (19) gradu-
ated from Holliday in 2006, he will
make the move to Floydada to
seek employment and continue
his education.
Floydada is a Class AA
school with approximately 300

students in High School. The
school colors are green-white-
black and the mascot is the
“Whirlwinds”. The school district
has very nice facilities, with three
gyms and four campuses; Grades
K-2,3-5,6-8 and 9-12.
The Lady Eagles, under
Coach Styles supervision, were
Regional Finalist in 1997. This is
the highest that any girls basket-
ball team has advanced in the his-
tory of Holliday Schools. In 1998,
the Lady Eagles were Area Quali-
fiers. In 1999, again they were
Area Qualifiers, losing to the
state champs. The Lady Eagles
were # 1 in free throw shooting in
the state this year in all classifi-
cations. In 2001, the Lady Eagles
were Area Qualifiers and in 2002
Bi-District Qualifiers.
The Boys and Girls Cross
Country Team Results are: In
1996, the Boys were Regional
Qualifiers and Eric Brackeen
placed 15th at state. The girls
were also Regional Qualifiers. In
1997, the girls were Regional
Qualifiers. In 1998, the boys won
District, Regional and were run-
ner up at State. The girls ad-
vanced to Regional and Liz Parker
advanced to State. In 2000, the
boys were District, Regional
Champs and runner up in State.
The girls were Regional Qualifi-
ers and Kristi Parker advanced to
State. In 2001, the boys were Dis-

trict, Regional Champs and State
Runner Up. The girls won Dis-
trict, Regional Qualifiers and
Kristi Parker once again advanced
to State. In 2002, the boys were
District Champs, Regional
Champs and advanced to State
placing 3rd in the Finals. The girls
won District, Regional and were
5th in the State Finals. In 2003,
the boys won District, Regional,
and placed 3rd at State. The girls
were District, Regional Champs
and placed 2nd at State. The girls
were District, Regional Champs
and placed 2nd at State. In 2004,
the boys won District, Regional
Qualifiers and Kolin Styles placed
7th in State. The girls won Dis-
trict, Regional and were State
Champs. In 2005, the boys were
District Champs, Regional Quali-
fiers and placed 5th at State. The
girls won District, Regional and
won the State Championship.
This made two times in a row. In
2006, the boys won District, won
the Regional Meet and placed 4th
at State. The girls won District
and advanced to Regional.
Coach Styles was chosen
as Girls Basketball Coach of the
Year 1997-Red River 22. In 2004,
he was Coach of the Year in Cross
Country for Class AA. In 2005,
he received Texas High School
Coaches Association Plaque for
500 points in Boys Cross Coun-
try. In 2006, he also received a
plaque for 400 points coaching
level in Girls Cross Country.
