The UIL Goodies
ACHS students are the
Archer City, Texas

Walsh And Groves Named "Tops'
Freddy Walsh and Carol
Groves were revealed as
the 1970 Valedictorian and
Salutatorian, Tuesday.
These top graduates had an
average of 9U.70 and 93.26,
respectively.
Debie Martin was very
close behind with 93.22.
The next six were Eddie
Wright with 91.28, Eddie
^rTgg with 90.67, Becky
Crow with 90.51, Mark Ful-
lerton with 90.20, and
Theresa Matlock with 88.26.

Regional
Karin and Kathy Patter-
son won the District 11-A
tennis match that was held
at Holliday Tuesday, April
15. The twins won their
first set 7-5, lost the
second U-6, and won the
third 6-h. -‘-he twins will
travel to Denton to play
in the regional playoffs
April 23 and 2k.
Golfers Vie
For Regional
The Archer City High
School Golf Team earned
the right to go to the Re-
tional . Golf Meet held in
Denton A,ril 23. The team
placed Second in the Dis-
trict meet held in lernon,
April 16.
The Nocona Golf team
won the meet with a total
of U8l, and Archer City
scored a 5ll.
Jim Black shot a 120
and tied Jimuy Shields of
Nocona for third medalist.
Ted Bailey of Nocona was
medalist with a 117. The
scores counting for the
local team were 120, Jim
Black; 123, Eddie Trigg;
128, Jerry Stults; 1I4Q,
Allen Canpbell; and lUB,
Mark Groves.

al Honor Society and have
been named academic stu-
dents for four years.
Freddy was the eighth
grade valedictorian and
received the Scholarship

man year.

teacher, Mrs. Nell Barton,
and very accurate in ty-

and an officer in FHA. Be-

other of her accomplish-
ments because to be in
this organization one must
maintain a 90 average.
She is a sophomore for-
ward on the girl's basket-
ball team and one of her
favorite hobbies is horse-
back riding. It should be
because she is a former
Rodeo Queen contestant and
has been Rauch Week Queen
candidate two years.

One vote proved victor*-
ious for Charles Luig as he
received 88 of the 195 bal-
lots cast in the recent
Student Council presiden-
tial run-off.
His competitor, Sammy
Vaughn received 87 votes
to make the race one of the
closest in history.
Charles will team up
with Johnny Hudson, vine-
president elect, to head
the Student Council i n
1970-71.
Campaign managers for
Charles and Sammy were Jim
Black and Mark Fullerton,
respectively.
proud owners of a new tro-
phy. The trophy was award-
ed by Mr. Mciherson, di-
rector of District UIL, at
an assembly Friday, April
17. The trophy was pre-
sented for winning the
spring UIL events. Archer
City scored 16U.5 winning
points.
The District literary
meet was held here Friday,
April 10. AC won the lit-
erary meet by scoring 137
points. Participants from

At Band Concert
"Us. Now" a patriotic
type" show prepared by a
number of ACHS students
will be presented at the
annual spring concert pre-
sented by all those part-
icipating in hand in the
Archer City 'school oycrbem.
It is an attempt to show
some of the views of to-
day's youth on many cur-
rent issues.
Air pollution, war,
drugs, and love are some
of the topics discussed by
