Mayor pro tem speaks at
luncheon on state of the city
CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1A
“This project is near
and dear to my heart and
has been a really long time
coming,” she said. “Even
though it is well under
construction we want to let
all residents know that
businesses are still open in
that area.”
Old Town will look to
become a main attraction
in Coppell. With busi-
nesses, restaurants, the
Coppell Farmers Market, a
pavilion and patio homes,
the city hopes to com-
pletely revamp the area.
“We are trying to do this
with as little disruption as
possible but it is a con-
struction project,” she said.
“This fall is when they
should start on the actual
pavilion part of the project.
As of now the project is
ahead of schedule.”
Lastly, Tunnell spoke
about Kid Country. The
park, which is now 20
years old, is looking for an
update. There is a commit-
tee in place that currently
has an initial design and
they are trying to raise
money for the park.
“The committee mem-
bers were in the schools
asking students what they
would want in the park,”
Tunnell said. “The goal is
to construct it this fall in
October. It is a great a
community building time
and one of our most loved
parts of our city.”
Tunnell also spoke
about the success of Na-
tional Night Out. The city
won first place in the coun-
try for cities between
15,000 and 49,000 people.
“There were 59 block
parties and another great
community building
event,” she said. “It is a
great way to know one an-
other and know your
neighbors and it is another
reason why Coppell is such
a great city.”
