Many years ago, Msgr. Rory Deane planted the dream of a new
church in the mind of his parishioners at St. Joseph Church in Port
Aransas. When he retired in January 1 of 2007, the dream had
taken root and was then tended to by the parishioners under the
new spiritual leadership of Father John Xaviour.
The dream became reality on February 22 as Bishop Edmond
Carmody, joined by Msgr. Deane, Father Xaviour and the St. Joseph
parishioners, cut the ribbon on the doors of the new church.
“Open wide the doors for all people. We are opening wide the
doors to bring people to the Lord Jesus,” said Bishop Carmody as
the congregation entered their new house of worship for the first
time.
The large church has the seating capacity for 450, and on this day
every pew was filled. People stood along the walls of the church and
in the narthex to witness Bishop Carmody dedicate and consecrate
their church to the Lord.

Beginning Lent as
brothers and sisters
Hundreds of clients, caregivers and volunteers of Corpus
Christi State School gathered for their annual Ash
Wednesday Service on February 25. Bishop Edmond
Carmody is pictured distributing ashes at the service,
which also included Scripture readings, music provided
by First United Methodist’s Crosstide and reflections by
Bishop Carmody and other local religious leaders. Bishop
Carmody told those gathered, “We are all brothers and
sisters, sons and daughters of God. We all have a special
role to play, and that is to love each other." During Lent
the bishop encouraged all to “help each other, be
good to each other and affirm each other."
