DAIRY AND POULTRY SHOW OPENS FRIDAY
The Melting Pot
Last Game at College
Park Next Saturday
\__
r
Molting Pot belongs to'vabout s’teen
different organizations, lodges,
churches, etc. He professes to be j
a Mason, Modern Woodman. Knight
of Pythias. Rotr.ilan member of the
Commercial Club, member of the
Presbyterian Church, Ku Klux Klan,
Texas Press Association, International
Press Club and a number of organiza-
tions that slip our mind until the
time comes to pay dues. There isn’t
a single one of these organizations
that does not .have as one of the chief
cardinal principles, fellowship or
brotherly love, expressed in some
form or another in these different or-
ganizations.
• • •
Melting Pot was sick in bed for
nearly two weeks, and outside of a
visit from Dr. Williams, pastor of
the Presbyterian Church, and Dr.
Hunter, pastor of the Methodist
Church, no member of these organiza-
tions above named has expressed in
the least degree any form of brother-
ly love or fellowship. Melting Pot
does not know what I)r. Williams
called for; whether he was trying to
carry out a little scheme proposed by
John Cypher in Rotary, which called
for some action of friendship to an-
other certain member of the club
during a six months’ period, or wheth-
er he was representing the Presby-j
terian Church, of which 1 ought to be,
if I am not, a member.
* * #
Unfortunately, Mrs. Melting Pot
had the original out riding Sunday
afternoon when Dr. Hunter called,
and his visit was in vain, as far as
seeing M. P. wa concerned. Mrs.
M. P. had an idea that M. I*, had
rested long enough, so she made him
get up and dress Sunday afternoon
and take a long drive so he could go
to work Monday morning. She got
fooled--he hasn't gone to work yet.
The spirit was willing, but the flesh
was weak.

»
But what M. P. was trying to say
when he started to w’Ht.e this spiel
on a crazy, half-witted typewrit^,
that some good friend wished off on
.the office, was that just a whole lotr
^f this stuff we say and do amj^swear
to when we Join these lodges«and or-
ganizations. is all pure do bunk. '

our souls when we take these obliga-
tions. yet wo go ahead and take them
just as if we meant to live up to ev-

In what will probably be the last
game of the season for the Javclinas
of South Texas State Teachers’ Col-
lege, this eleven will meet the team
representing the Fort Brown Soldiers
of Brownsville ft College Park next
Saturday afternoon at 3:30. It is
understood that the soldiers have a
good team and have made a record
in the valley this season, so the game
should prove interesting. It will prob-
ably be a battle of brawn against wits,
and this fact will provide for the
line plunging type of football as well
as the open sort, which is made up
of kicking, passing and long end runs,
all of which will provide plenty of
thrills. This will also be the last
chance that local people will have to
see several of the Javelinas-An action,
as quite a few are either gi^duating
this year or planning to teachy
The Javclinas have been trtVniing
hard this week and Coach Smith Y^ys
that practically all the men will be
able to get in the game Saturday. The
Pigs came home with a victory from
Laredo last week, and it is probable
that some of these may be seen in
action.
The Javelinas are particularly anx-
ious to win Saturday, because out of
four games played this year they have
had only 12 points scored against
them, and have lost only one game
while they have rolled up a scroe of
G3 points. They are looking for Sat
urday not only to add up some more
points, but to add another victory to
their list. .
Union Thanksgiving Service
The Union Thanksgiving Service will be held
this year at the Christian Church on Thanksgiv-
ing Day, at 10:00 o’clock. The Rev. J. M. Garner,
pastor of the Baptist Church, is to preach the
sermon. This will he, as it always is, a union
service in which the Presbyterian, Christian,
Methodist and Baptist churches unite. Let us
make this annual service of worship together a
real heartfelt service of worship, filled with the
spirit of gratitude to God for the many blessings
so bountifully poured out upon us.
To this hour of meeting in common fellowship,
all who appreciate the good gifts of God are in-
vited.
GEO. F. WILLIAMS,
President of Ministers Association.

What Became of
Bond Petition?
Several weeks ago the Record car-
ried an, editorial commenting upon
and approving the calling of an elec-
tion for the voting of bonds for the
building of a road west to the Jim
Wells county highway and improv-
ing the rcyid between Riviera and tin
Brooks county line. The Record had
been insured/that the petition had
been prepared and would be presented
to the commissioners court at their
October meeting. On account of the
required number of the commissioners
rot Yu ing present at that term of
the court, no action was taken.
At the November term of court the
petition was not presented for action
of any kind.
