XMAS
Hello-,..SafUtaXlaus*. W.e’ve been waiting for you
all year, and we’ve been very, very good, haven’t we,
Anne? , And we’re awfully glad you’ve come! Did you
bring us the things we asked you for? And don’t forget
to fill our stockings, will you Santa Claus? They’re
hanging up over there by the fireplace-
Say, Santa Claus, is it true that your reindeer don’t
have to go very far this Christmas? We heard that
you’ll only be visiting a few countries this year and that
the little boys and - girls in Germany and Italy and
Czechoslovakia and lots of other countries won’t get to
see you at all. Is that true, Santa Claus? Aren’t they
going to get any toys or clothes or books or anything?
Won’t they be waiting for you?
Mother said that in most of those countries when
children’s mothers wanted to fix a Christmas dinner
the had to use ration cards at the butcher’s and the gro-
cer’s, and that even then they just got barely enough to
eat. We’re going to have roast turkey and lots and lots
of other things--

I guess we’re pretty lucky, aren’t we, Santa Claus?
I mean we’re lucky that you still come to America and
that we have a regular Christmas just like always. I
wouldn’t care if you didn’t bring me anything at all —
wel-1-1,. hardly anything — as long as w§ can still wait
for you and know for sure you will come, and we can
go to Church on Christmas and have swell dinners and
all like that.”
Bobby and Anne are lucky. They’re lucky to be
Americans, lucky to be celebrating an American Christ-
mas in the American Way. They’re lucky that there is
a Christmas in America. They’re lucky that there is an
America.
The Panhandle Herald wants to wish you a tru-
ly merry Christmas. We hope that it will be a glad one
and that the New Year will bring “Peace On Earth -
Good Will To Man!”
MERRY CHRISTMAS
THE PANHANDLE HERALD
