Observations
From Here and There
BY R. M. P.
Many, many years ago when '.he
ancient city of Rome was in its fuil
glory, the rich and powerful peoplo
of that land owned many slaves.
Among the many thousands of slave e
was one named Aadroclee, whose
master was very cruel and mean.
Androcles was a man of strong de-
t.-rmtnatipn, and finding no remedy
for what he suffered, decided he
would run awny from bis master.
He knew if he should be recaptured
he would be pat to death. But
this he preferred to living as a
stave. He knew also that the only
chance. of escape he had was to go
into the great forest nod live among
the animals.
One lay the opportunity •nme
for Androcles to escape. He plung
ed Into the great woods and hid
himself. But here he found be had
fled from one torture to another.
Hunt as be would, he could find
nothing to eat, and the tear of the
wild animate was upon him. Aftef
wandering for many miles he at
J*st found a cavern and toy down
In despair. *
Androcles had not been In the rave
long when he heard n greet roar.
Frightened, he ran to the mouth of
the cave. Here he saw $ large
lion coming toward him, and there
waa no way of, escape. He trem-
bled with fear, hat was surprised
that the lien did not display any
anger, but* advaaeed Pith a gentle
P«ce, uttering a luorirnful wail of
their ancient rivals, Center High
School, on Center’s home ground
tost Friday afternoon 6 to 0. From
the first to the tost whistle the
game was a Utterly fought one
with Center taking the honors in
the first half dhd Carthage re-
turning in the second half with
fight enough to keep the ball in
Center’s territory and win the game.
To John Henry Lawrence goes
the honor of scoring the touch-
down which meant victory and glory
for Csrthage High School, laying
a stellar game all the way through,
this long lanky end intercepted a
pass on bis own M yard line and
raced 60 yards behind perfect in-
terference for the only marker of
the evening. Captain Walker at
tackle, Smith at end, Cos at tack-
le, Dennard at guard and Holmes
st Center covered themselves with
glory in presenting a stone wall
on the defense and rushing through
their rival's lilt to throw the Cen-
ter basket for losses. In the back-
