Washington’s Birthday.
The birthday of the “father of
our country” was celebrated in a
most patriotic manner at St.
Dominic Villa Monday afternoon,
when a goodly number of town
folk assembled to witness the
well rendered exercises.
The guests were welcomed by
a committee composed of the
following students: Misses Be -
atrice Guerrero. Bernice Clem-
ents, I!a Campbell, Ruby Watson
and Mary Cordelia Byrne, the
young ladies looking attractive
in the uniform of white and blue,
and wearing in honor of the day,
small flags pinned upon the left
shirtwaist sleeve.
The assembly room of the villa
is fitted up with a spacious stage
which was decorated. In the
central place of honor hung a
framed portrait of Washington,
around which was arranged
tastefully the stars and stripes.
Festoons of red, white and blue
were draped from the ceiling and
from each stage light was sus-
pended a small hatchet.
The programs were also hatch-
et-shaped, with lettering of gold
and decorated in flags, and tied
with the national colors.
Eleven numbers, consisting of
recitations drills and national
songs, were rendered. Space
forbids mention of each partici-
pant, special praise should be ac-
corded Misses Adele Brown, who
represented Uncle Sam; Beatrice
McDermott, as ' the Goddess of
Liberty; Miss Cynthia White, as
Martha Washington.
Those who attended feel in-
debted to the student body for a
pleasant entertainment.
