  • Castillo, José L. José L. Castillo, a correspondent for the international EFE News Service, donated his archive of photographs taken between July 2004 and July 2006 to the UNT Archives. The images depict protests and political events in the Latino community, including the march protesting immigration bill HR 4437 in April 2006 by more than 350,000 people; Hispanic community and political leaders; and festivals, Latino soccer leagues and other gatherings in the North Texas area. Featured subjects include Fort Worth Mayor Mike Moncrief; former Dallas Mayor Laura Miller, Dallas ISD Superintendent Michael Hinojosa; former LULAC President Hector Flores.

Margarita Alvarez, union spokesperson with the organization, Voices United for Immigrants, addresses the public during the protest carried out on Saturday in front of City Hall in Dallas. Thousands participated in the protest on Saturday outside the City Hall and also there were dozens of banners and posters which asked for "Justice for the undocumenteds," "Equality of rights," or "No to the wall." But it was a single feeling which united the more than 2,000 persons protesting H.R. 4437 presented to Congress by Congressman James Sensenbrenner (R-WI).

Women hold placards at a protest at Dallas City Hall.
