ACU applies for
men's dorm loan
By RUSTY JONES
OpHmltt Staff
ACU has applied for a $3.5 million loan to
cover part of the cost of constructing a new
men's dorm said Neil Fry assistant to the
vice president of finance.
The application was submitted to the
U.S. Department of Education through
which Smith-Adams Hall and Shcrrod
Residential Park have been financed he
said.
Tenative plans for a new dorm have
been discussed but nothing definite will be
decided until the Department of Education
notifies ACU about the granting of the
loan.
The deadline for receiving the loan was
Sept. 30 but ACU has heard nothing yet. A
reply should come within the next two
weeks Fry said.
Because the loan only would cover a'
portion of the cost. ACU would have to
spend about $1 million for such items as
furnishings he said.
The plans call for the dorm to be built in
the same style as Smith-Adams Kail The
new dorm would house 250 students Fry
said and possibly would be located near
the Sherrod Residential Park complex.
Tenative plans are to build a dorm for
men but the same style also could be used
for women said the assistant to (he vice
president. The decision was made for a
men's dorm because more women's than
men's dorms already exist on campus he
said.
Javelinas'
points; and fifth place finishers will
receive 5 Intramural points she said.
Participants may sign up for the race
and pay the $5 registration fee In the SA
office until Friday afternoon she said.
Registration also will take place Saturday
morning at the stadium before the race.
The fee for registering Saturday is $6 said
Dew. The registration fee includes a
"Hammer the Javelinas" T-shirt she
said.
Students are invited to enter the car
decorating contest at the Big Purple
Stomping Grounds at 5 p.m. said Dew.
Judging the contest are Norman Ar-
chibald associate dean of students and
Cheryl Mann news information director
said Dew. Priies for the three best-
decorated cars will be awarded she said.
Following the car decorating contest
students will then caravan to P.E. Shot-
well Stadium for w tailgate party in the
parking lot Defers the ACU-Texas A & I
game at 7 p.m. said Dew. Students need to
bring their own food for the party. Free ice
cream from Larry's Better Burger will be
provided she said.
The weekend's activities are in conjunc-
tion with this week's football game and are
a spin-off of last year's "Roast the Rams"
weekend.
